ROOKIE DRIVER HEAD GETS SOME LAPS AT CENTRAL ALBERTA RACEWAYS
| ||||
HEAD TO RIMBEY
RIMBEY, AB. (May 27th) - Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series Rookie of the Year contender Pete Head was all smiles after a successful test 'n' tune session at Central Alberta Raceways on Saturday. "I needed this big time," says the Whitecourt, Alberta driver, "this was some much needed time on the track." Head suffered catastrophic engine failure at the Castrol Raceway test 'n' tune back on May 5th. "I think I got in only two laps [in Edmonton] and that was it." Head missed the 2012 NPP Season Opener [May 12th]. "I'm definitely looking forward to finally getting my season going." The former resident of Bishops Falls, Newfoundland had three on-track test sessions with his Westpoint Energy Servces #48 Chevrolet in Rimbey, Alberta. "I was a little surprised at the banking. It's a bit of a tricky track but we did a few changes and managed to put in some pretty good laps towards the end."
SUCCESSFUL TEST SESSION IN RIMBEY FOR PETE HEAD
There
was a bit of a scare during Heads opening test session on the 3/8 mile
Oval track at Central Alberta Raceways. "We started out strong then the
engine started acting up after about 6 laps. I thought 'here we go
again'." Head would pull into the pits and find that a spark plug wire
had come off. "A person could get a little gun shy about using the gas
pedal if stuff keeps breaking." Heads on-track test 'n' tune sessions
were held during the 2012 Season Opener on the Oval at Central Alberta
Raceways.
HOBBY STOCK FEATURE AT CENTRAL ALBERTA RACEWAYS SEASON OPENER
"This is a pretty nice facility," says Head, "looking forward to
returning." Head and his team won't have long to wait as race #2 and #3
of the 2012 NPP Late Model Series Season is Friday and Saturday June
8th and 9th in Rimbey, Alberta.
SHAYLEN RAYE MOTORSPORTS BIG WIN WEEKEND
Lake Stevens,
WA 5/28/12 by Racinghartmedia
It was a busy
weekend for the Shaylen Raye Motorsports #18 Shark Racing Engines powered
Sprint Cars driven by Travis Jacobson. The team started out racing both the 410
and 360 Sprinters at Skagit Speedway Saturday night for the John Carroll
Classic and then headed to Grays Harbor Speedway in Elma for the second night
of the ASCS Northwest Region Series Sunday race.
On Saturday
night the big win was in the 360 Sprint as Travis led every lap of the 360 main
even to win the John Carroll Cup and the extra money paycheck. In winners
circle Travis spoke about what it meant to win the Carroll Classic, “Little
shaky, I owe my whole career to that guy I will never forget him..I am
speechless right now. This team gives me such an awesome ride every week.
Thanks to Mike Anderson and thanks to this team for giving me a chance to win
every time we fire this thing up.”
The 410 was
also on rails Saturday night but the evening ended late in the 410 main with
some mechanical issues with Travis running down the leader.
Off to Elma
for the Sunday race where the team got a bad pill draw and had to work their
way into the A main after completely dominating the B main event. The #18
Shaylen Raye Motorsports ASCS 360 started 17th and had worked their
way up to 7th late in the race. Clearly the team could have been a
top 5 car with lap times consistently faster than the cars in front of him.
Late in the race Travis was challenging for a top 5 spot when he made contact
with a spinning lapped car flipping and ending the evening.
The Shaylen
Raye Motorsports team would like to thank everyone from both of the tracks, the
fans and friends that came down after the races and said such nice things about
the show Travis put on. We love this sport and the support we have from our
fans is greatly appreciated.

Wells protects his Crown: wins Memorial Day 100 at Montana
insider@montanaracewaypark.com
In
their first race of the season the Kalispell Toyota Super Late Models
came out fighting. Braeden Havens set fast time in the division with a
13.002. Jeff Little took the trophy dash win. In the B heat race Giles
Thornton made a good showing and headed off Todd Havens to take the
checkers. In the A heat Dave Garber edged out Bodie Morton. In the 100
lap main, Corey Wolfe started on the pole position with David Garber on
his outside. Garber quickly jumped into the lead and held onto first
place until Wrango West started challenging for the lead. The pair
battled for five laps until a caution flag came out for debris on the
track at lap 11. With the cone restart coming out Garber and West lined
up in the front row and challenged each other until lap 17. West
passed Garber and with a lot of open space setup a nice margin between
himself and Garber. Garber held strong and stayed in the top three.
This allowed Bodie Morton to move into second place and try to chase
down West. Half way through the main Alex Lessor and the 2011 Kalispell
Toyota Super Late Model Champion Ryan Wells were coming on strong.
West kept his nice time margin over Morton until lap 67, when a late
race caution came out for debris on the track. This set up a late race
charge as West and Morton lined up on the front row to have it out.
Morton took the high side and sailed around West to take the lead. West
continued to move back allowing Wells, Garber, and Lessor to move up.
Wells started his charge for the lead after taking second position on
lap 75. Wells’ late race push paid off for him in the final ten laps as
he passed Morton on lap 90 and continued strong to the end. In the end
Wells took the checkers followed by Morton in second and Lessor in
third. After the first event in the six race series Wells leads by two
points over Morton.

Close Racing At Western Speedway
By Ken Keating
Western Speedway hosted the return of the Island Stock Cars and the
Richlock Rental Non Wing Sprint Cars for their second appearance of
2012 Saturday night. Also on the card was the season debut for the Island
Dwarf Cars and the Old Time Racing Association for Trophy Dashes, Heat
races, and of course the Feature events. After young Natalie Vardy opened
the evening with her singing of the National Anthem the Dwarf Cars got
the racing going in their Trophy Dash and the action started early.
Mike Meeres seemed to have things going his way but on the last lap
spun out handing the win to Mike Schott. As the field was coming to
the white flag lap in the OTRA Dash, Tom Cinnamon made a move to go
under Larry Joyce for the lead when Joyce spun around. Dennis Morneau
got stopped before he crashed into the spinning car as Cinnamon went
on for the win. Brian Clutchey won his second Trophy Dash in a row as
he took the chequered flag in the Stock Car Series and Chris Root won
the Non Wing Sprint Car Dash. Heat race wins went to Ike Armitage and
Mike Schott in the Dwarf Car Series, Kail Beck and George Jenson won
in the OTRA Heats, Larry Graham and Brian Clutchey prevailed in the
Stock Car Series, and Darryl Morneau and Jeff Bird took the chequered
flag for the Sprint Cars Series.
John McNabb and Miles Maxie shared the front row for the start of
the Dwarf Car Feature event but it was Ike Armitage that grabbed the
lead on the first lap with Maxie and Mike Meeres running second and
third respectively. On lap eight the yellow flag came out as Maxie slid
just a bit and Meeres, with nowhere to go, tagged him spinning Maxie
around. Dave Emmerson, driving the #24 car, also was involved and lost
the radiator ending his night. On the restart, Armitage got away clean
and continued to run in the lead followed by Mike Schott and Bob Greenaway.
On lap fourteen, Meeres passed Greenaway and took over the third spot.
No one had anything for Armitage as he went on to take the chequered
flag in convincing fashion ahead of Schott, and Meeres.
Ron Simpson held the pole as twelve Old Timers lined up for racing
in their Feature event. Kail Beck, from the outside front row grabbed
the lead early as Simpson battled Joe Dardingo for the second position.
On lap four Dardingo moved up to the second position as George "The
Jet" Jenson moved up to run third three laps later. There was a
couple of yellow flags early as Roger Beck spun around in turn three
and then Tom Cinnamon went around after getting the front end of his
car tangled in Jenson's rear bumper thus spinning him around with no
further contact. On lap nine the yellow came out again as Cinnamon lost
the rear tire on his machine and had to be towed off the track. On the
restart, Beck got away to the lead and Jenson moved quickly into the
second spot dropping Dardingo back to third. On lap fourteen, Jenson
was able to get by Beck and into the lead but could not shake the younger
Beck or Dennis Morneau who also moved up to challenge. Over the next
several laps, these three drivers put on quite a show of racing as they
ran door handle to door handle trading positions often. Morneau was
able to actually lead lap twenty-two and three as the side by side racing
continued with Beck still in the mix. Back on lap seventeen, the yellow
came out as Roger Beck was entering turn one his clutch exploded on
his car taking out the bell housing and fly wheel sending parts flying
over the race track. The only other casualty was Joe Dardingo who suffered
a punctured front tire on his car as he ran over some parts. Jenson,
over the last few laps, held off the charge by Morneau and Kail Beck
and went on to the win with Morneau finishing in second and Beck in
third. Larry Joyce and James Miller rounded out the top five. Jenson
explained; "I had to slow down just a bit for those few laps but
put it back together for this win." George is "running for
the cure" this season raising funds to help in the fight against
cancer. An emotional Jenson recalled family members and fellow racers
who have been affected with cancer and "We all need to step up
in this fight" he says. Each of the sponsors of George's car donated
one hundred dollars for the win and all proceeds will be donated to
this very worthy cause.
Chris McInerny and Aaron Wilkie led fifteen cars to the green flag
for the start of the Stock Car Feature event. The first yellow came
out early as the racing was tight and as one car slipped just a bit
caught Brandon Steen sending him in the air and into the turn one wall
and shortly after another slight bauble caught Brian Clutchey spinning
him around in turn one. Everyone was able to avoid major crashes and
continue. Aaron Wilkie was leading until Daryl Crocker moved up and
finally passed for the lead on lap nine as fans were treated to some
great side by side racing with these two drivers. On lap eleven "Hot
Shoe" Cody Aumen moved up and took the third spot and then moved
to second on lap fifteen sending Wilkie back to third. The yellow came
out again as cars tried running three wide going into turn one and this
caused Dave Reside and Lance Wade, driving for Ryan Wade, to spin out.
On the double file restart, Crocker had Aumen on his outside as the
field took the green flag and the tight racing began again up front.
On lap twenty-five Kyle Cottam moved into the mix by taking the third
spot. On lap twenty-six, as Aumen and Crocker were racing side by side,
slight contact sent both leaders around going through turn two bringing
out the caution flag. On the double file restart, Kyle Cottam lined
up with Mike Derepentigny on the front row with Aaron Wilkie and Brandon
Steen back in the mix. Over the remainder of the race, Cottam held off
the challengers and went on to take the chequered flag followed by Brandon
Steen, Cody Aumen, Brian Clutchey, and Lance Wade who all suffered set
backs but was able to drive back to a decent finish in yet another very
competitive race.
Matt and Paul Verhagen shared the front row for the start of thirty
laps of racing in the Non Wing Sprint Car Feature event with Matt getting
the lead early followed quickly by Dale Robinson. On lap two, Mark Stuart
moved up to run third and then passed while Robinson took over the lead
two laps later. On lap five, Stuart moved into the second spot as Chris
Root was coming forward taking the third spot on lap seven dropping
Verhagen back to fourth. On lap nine Stuart took the lead dropping Robinson
back to second. On lap twelve, Root moved up to the second spot leaving
Robinson and Verhagen to battle behind them. On lap nineteen, Jeff Bird
moved up to try and challenge Robinson for the third spot. Up front,
Stuart had opened a very large lead over the rest of the field. On lap
twenty-five, Bird reined in Robinson and went by for the third spot
and tried to reel in Root for second. Time and laps ran out as no one
had anything for Stuart who took his second win of the season in the
Ricklock Rentals Non Wing Sprint Cars. Root, Bird, Robinson, and Matt
Verhagen rounded out the top five positions. Willow and Chahala were
on hand for each Trophy presentation throughout the evening.
The next event, at Western Speedway and sponsored by IslandCarBuyers.com
is on June 2nd that will feature the Goldstream News Demo Cars, Demo
Trucks, Figure 8s, and the Bombers. There is a popular van chase also
scheduled for this event. Qualifying takes place at 5:30 PM and racing
begins at 6:30 PM.

#02 Daryl Cahill dominated the 35 lap feature for the Hornet Cars on Saturday, leading all but 4 laps and taking home his second straight main event win, inching his way closer to catching his brother #08 Daryn Cahill for 1st overall in the points race. The I.M.C.A Modifieds, Bomber cars and the Motorcycles were also on the racing card on Saturday.
The Motorcycles were
up in bikes on Saturday, with a field of 6 taking to the track. #68
Bruce Moran once again dominated the Motorcycle division on Saturday,
setting fast time in qualifying with a time of 23.120. From that point
on Moran had no competition, taking home wins in the dash, heat and
leading all but 4 laps in the main event to win every race in the
Motorcycle division. So far this season, Moran has won 6 of 7 races,
proving that you're going to have to bring your best to beat him.
The
I.M.C.A Modifieds made their second of the year on Saturday.
#00 Bart Smith once again set fast time with a time of 15.312. Smith
took home the win in the dash, with a hard fought win in the heat going
to #53 Kevin Noble. 7 cars took to the track for their 30 lap feature
race. #44 Tim Openshaw battled Smith, Noble and others to hold his lead
for the first 20 laps. A lap car on lap 20 caused Openshaw, #98 Pat
Brown and Smith to go 4 wide down the back stretch, with Smith coming
out of it in 1st place, dropping Openshaw into 3rd place. Smith would
pull away from the pack from there, taking home his 2nd main event win
of the year. Brown, Noble and Openshaw fought for 2nd, 3rd and 4th for
the final 15 laps, with 2nd place eventually going to Brown, leaving
Noble in 3rd, and Openshaw in 4th.
The Bomber
cars were also making their second appearance of the year on Saturday.
Fast time in qualifying went to #98 Bobby Cyr who set a time of 17.677.
The B dash was won by #46 Ryan Monks, which was his first win of the
year; #72 Stewart Lee took home the win in the A dash. #29 Gilles Cyr
battled his way from the back to win his first race of the year in the
10 lap heat race. #5 Darren Larson got out to an early lead in the 30
lap feature. Larson held his lead for the first 10 laps until #72
Stewart Lee fought his way around the outside of Larson coming out of
turn 4 to take the lead. Lee had no competition from there, stretching
his lead over #29 Gilles Cyr to over half a lap and eventually taking
home the win. This is Lee's second main event win of the season, proving
that the former Bomber champion is back and is still one of the best
drivers in the class. Cyr would take home 2nd with 3rd place going to
#11 Mike Dionne.
The Hornet cars were racing
for the second weekend in a row on Saturday. #07 Brandon Phillips set
fast time in qualifying with a time of 18.273. The Hornet cars had 3
dashes on Saturday, with the C going to #59 Mike Ryce, the B going to
#14 Kyle Fallowfield and finally the A going to #08 Daryn Cahill. #81
Jeremy Stormo battled his way from the back to win the B heat, with the A
heat going to #01 Kevin Lawrenuk. The 35 lap feature main event was
dominated by #02 Daryl Cahill who was relatively quiet all night up
until the main event. Daryl took the lead on lap 4 and stretched his
lead from there, lapping several cars in his path. #01 Kevin Lawrenuk
tried to keep up with Cahill but was never able to make a pass on him.
Kevin and Jennifer Lawrenuk would battle for 2nd and 3rd with brother
Kevin eventually taking home 2nd, with 3rd going to Jennifer.
Extra
laps...Next weekend Marine Harvest will be sponsoring a great night of
racing featured by the Crash to Pass cars, Roadrunners and the Hornet
cars. June 16th will be featuring our annual Car tossing competition,
which is one of the more popular events at the Speedway. The record for
the car tossing competition is 64 feet 6 inches set back in 2008; the
Crash to Pass cars, Hornet cars and Roadrunners will also be on the
racing card, so make sure to mark your calenders for these great race
nights and many others this season.

first win of the season.

Self Captures First K&N West Win At Brainerd
Chases Down Kwasniewski To Take Lead In Closing Laps
BRAINERD, Minn. (May 26, 2012) –
Michael Self scored his first career win in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West with a victory in the Brainerd 125 at Brainerd
International Raceway on Saturday.
The
21-year-old from Park City, Utah chased down Dylan Kwasniewski in the
closing stages of the 50-lap race on the 2.5-mile road course
and took the lead coming to the white flag. Kwasniewski, who had
dominated the competition, was battling transmission issues as the race
wound down.
Self
had run in third behind teammates Kwasniewski and Greg Pursley for most
of the race. He picked off Pursley with 10 laps to go and
then overcame more than a three-second deficit to get to the lead. He
made the move past Kwasniewski entering Turn 9 on the 48th lap and
pulled away in the No. 21 Rockwell/Golden Gate Meat/RCR Chevrolet to win
by a margin of 4.859 seconds.
Despite
the mechanical problems, Kwasniewski held on to finish second. Pursley
was third, with Derek Thorn fourth and David Mayhew fifth.
Completing the top 10 were Eric Holmes, Jonathon Gomez, Austin Dyne,
Dylan Hutchison and Carl Harr.
With
his win, Self locked up a spot in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series race at
the UNOH Battle At The Beach at Daytona (Fla.) International
Speedway next February during Speedweeks.
The Brainerd event was the sixth event on a 15-race schedule and the second of four road course races for the series this year.
The
next event on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West schedule will be the
Star Nursery 200 at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on
Saturday, June 2.

Open-wheelers return to MVS with a vengeance Saturday
by Jon Brown, MERIDIAN, Idaho — Long deprived of the speed, thrill
and thunder of winged open-wheel action, Magic Valley race fans can get
their fix in serious fashion Saturday night. The Canadian-American Western Winged Sprintcar Series starts its inaugural season with the opening night of the Northwest Asphalt Speedweek at Magic Valley Speedway on Saturday.
Tickets are $18 for adults with varying discounts for military personnel with ID, senior citizens, and children ages 7-11. Children 6 and younger get in free. A family pass good for two adults and up to four children ages 7-11 costs $46. Fans can save $3 off the adult admission price by ordering tickets online at www.wingedsprintcars.com.
Call (208) 888-2813 for more event information. Details of other races in the Western Winged Sprints Series can be found at www.wingedsprintcars.com.
The top racers from western Canada, Oregon, Washington, the Treasure Valley and Utah roll into Twin Falls to take part in the first organized open-wheel show at Magic Valley Speedway in several years.
“It’s a new venue, and it’s something fun to do. We’re thinking outside the box for this event,” series organizer Adam Nelson said.
“We’re excited that (Magic Valley promoter) Eddy McKean would invite the Western Winged Sprintcars to race at his facility.”
Among the drivers making the tow is Magic Valley track record-holder Sierra Jackson. The Middleton driver will use Saturday’s MVS show and a Memorial Day Western Winged Sprints race at Rocky Mountain Raceways in West Valley City, Utah, as a tuneup for her defense of the Bob and Tom Naylor Memorial and Diamond Cup championships back at her home track at Meridian Speedway.
The Naylor on Wednesday and the BOB 96.1 FM Diamond Cup on Friday-Saturday, June 1-2, serve as the final races of Northwest Asphalt Speedweek, all of which feature Western Winged Sprints points races as well as races in the Idaho-Utah Challenge Series.
An open practice beginning at 5 p.m. Friday at Magic Valley precedes the Saturday show. Qualifying on Saturday starts at 5 p.m. followed by racing at 6:30 p.m.
In addition to the Western Winged Sprints, Meridian Speedway points races for the Pit Stop Drive Thru Super Stocks and Tates Hornets will be held Saturday in Twin Falls.
Nelson, who also serves as ASA-sanctioned Meridian Speedway’s managing partner, expects about a dozen race teams from the Boise area as well as five teams from Canada, about 10 from the Salt Lake City area and some of the top drivers from the ASA Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association, which pulls drivers from Idaho, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia.
Jackson is the reigning NSRA champion and shared the Diamond Cup championship with Matt Hein last year. Hein and fellow Roseburg, Ore., racer Andy Alberding could be among the West Coast racers in action for Northwest Asphalt Speedweek. The NSRA is co-sanctioning the Diamond Cup in Meridian at the end of the week.
Other Boise-area drivers to look for during Speedweek include reigning Meridian track champion Mike Murgoitio and top 2011 NSRA rookie Johnny Giesler, both of whom call Meridian home. Another Meridian racer, Bryan Warf, is expected to compete, too.
Some of the top Utah drivers expected to compete include Jimmy Waters, Ryan Burdett and T.J. Thorne.
Canadian standouts expected to make the tow include Ron Larson, Matt Mansell, Darren Yates, Scotty Almond and perhaps Jeff Montgomery.
Paraplegic race car driver is living the dream
Trevor Adelman had a new race car built at Harding Motorsports in Langley for this year's season.
This is the 26-year-old's fourth race car, and was built with a modified door that hinges down so he can get in and out of the driver's seat. In addition, the race car is equipped with hand controls so Adelman can run the car on asphalt with 30 or so other race cars at up to 140 m.p.h. (225 km/h) depending on the track. He goes to the race track in a wheelchair.
Adelman says he's living the dream, working with his closest childhood friends from Quesnel building the race car in the shop owned by NASCAR champion Pete Harding that is operated by his son Shane, also a NASCAR champion and race car builder.
The car was completed in time for Adelman to start his fourth racing season in the ARCA OK Tire Sports-man Series. He'll be racing tomorrow in Williams Lake.
He grew up helping his father Dennis work on race cars and started his own driving career at the age of 16 at Quesnel's Gold Pan Speedway. He had been racing for three years when a car accident in 2004 broke his back and rendered him a paraplegic at the age of 19. He was a passenger in a car full of teenagers returning from a camping trip when the driver lost control. The car rolled into a ditch and Adel-man was thrown from the car.
After the accident that paralyzed him from the waist down, he was sent to the G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre in Vancouver. He couldn't wait to get back behind the wheel. So, with the help of his family, he purchased a supercharged 2001 Pontiac GTP and equipped it with hand controls so he could check himself out of the centre every night to go driving.
Adelman talks about the amazing community support when he returned home to Quesnel.
"My friends told me, if I could drive a car, I could go racing," he says. "Then they built me a race car."
The 1982 Monte Carlo purchased locally had already been a race car. Thus, NFA (No Feet Adelman) Racing was born. The crew consists of crew chief Warren Dagenais, Shaun Quechuck and Justin Grouette (setup), James McKelvie (fabrication) and Jason McAndrews (mechanical).
They welded in a roll bar with a hinged access door and headed to Gold Pan Speedway for the 2005 sea-son opener. But the major obstacles were not to be on the track. Other drivers and track operators didn't think it was a good idea to have a paraplegic racing.
"They just hadn't seen that before," Adelman recalls. "But we showed up and went racing."
In the first lap of his second race, his car got squeezed between two others, hit the wall and rolled upside down. "You could have heard a pin drop at the track," he says. "I was all right. But the car was a write off."
Crew chief Dagenais responded by saying: "I guess we're building you a new car."
Back competing in 2007, Adelman was able to put up some great finishes on the northern tracks in Quesnel, Williams Lake and Prince George. He led the points at his home track for the entire 2008 season. But his car developed mechanical problems in the last race of the year and he finished fifth overall.

He led the points at his home track for the entire 2008 season. But his car developed mechanical problems in the last race of the year and he finished fifth overall.
For 2009, he took a
huge step up with a new car purchased in Peach-land to compete in the
ARCA OK Tire Sportsmen's Series with late-model stock cars weighing
3,100 pounds (1,406 kg) that go up to 225 km/h.
The B.C. race tour took him to Vernon, Agassiz and north central tracks with a race car that could compete anywhere in North America. He had a few minor sponsors from Quesnel. But travel costs for a crew of five and the need to buy four new tires for every race ate up the money and limited the team from entering more than five races.
"It costs about $3,000 a weekend," Adelman estimates.
He was voted the most improved driver for the 2010 season and finished in the top 10 of 25 cars for the 2011 ARCA Race Series. Along the way he met Shane Harding.
"I was amazed at what these guys do," Harding says. "They have to work twice as hard as everyone else and still they are real competitors."
This spring, a new race car was built from scratch at the Harding Motor-sports shop in Langley. Adelman and his crew stayed on site in a rented motor home while working with Harding to put the car together with a frame shipped from Port City Racing in Michigan. The car has been fit-ted with simple hand controls: pull for gas and push for brake. The budget for this year's racing is $80,000, including the cost of the new car.
"We have raised about half through sponsorships and the sale of merchandise," Adelman notes. "We still need more sponsorship help to keep racing."
Big sponsors this year include Bab-con Industries and Brody Lawrence Contracting, K2 Courier Services, Huska Construction, all of Quesnel, with Northern Energy Constructors of Prince George just signing on. Adel-man's Vancouver personal injury lawyer, David Doig, is also a sponsor.
Pete Harding donated space in his shop to build the new race car and Shane Harding helped build the car at cost with no profit.
"I really admire what this crew does," he says.
Adelman will compete on B.C. tracks this summer and hopes to enter the Fall Classic Race in Las Vegas.
"My friends and family have been amazing," he says with special gratitude to his parents, sisters and grand-parents on both sides of the family. "We have tons of fans and are a favourite at every track" He and his crew plan to trailer the new race car to the G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre in August "to show people that, despite what happens, you can make your life worthwhile."
In his spare time, Adelman sings in the country rock band Rockin' Chair and has opened for country stars Travis Tritt and Aaron Pritchett.
"I wouldn't trade where anything for where I am at today," he says. "I'm truly living the dream."
The best may be yet to come.

Ryan and Planko Thrill Deming Crowd
kaleb@xxxraceco.com
5/25/12
Liam
Ryan and Brayden Planko provided the on track fireworks on a beautiful
night at Deming Speedway. On Les Schwab night, Ryan and Planko thrilled
the crowd with their close, nose to tail and side by side racing in the
600 feature that was won by Liam. Other feature winners included Tyson
Cross in the 1200s, Rachel Westmoreland in the 600 Restricted and Jesse
Schlotfeldt in the Jr Sprints.
Once
again, the Hoosier Speedmart 600 main event was a barnburner of an
affair, as Brayden Planko and Liam Ryan went toe to toe like two
champion prize fighters for the feature win. With Planko on the bottom
and Ryan riding the cushion, the pair went wheel to wheel for the first
10 laps of the feature before encountering heavy traffic. With slower
cars approaching, Ryan made a bonsai move up and around Planko coming
out of two, then dove to the inside of three to slam the door and secure
the lead on lap 13. After an ensuing caution flag, Ryan jetted away
from the pack to capture the win, with Planko taking second and Derek
Torkelson finishing third. Spud Allen set quick time and heat wins went
to Brock Lemley, Jared Peterson, Greg Hamilton and Dougie James.
Tyson
Cross had his car on absolute rails en route to a wire to wire win in
the 1200 division. Cross took off on the initial start and enjoyed a
full straightaway lead or more for the duration of the contest. Spud
Allen came up the field to finish second and Eric Turner was the fastest
qualifier and third place finisher. Heat wins went to Eric Drake, Allen
and Steven Hendrickson.
Rachel
Westmoreland made her front row starting position pay off, as the young
lady racer led all 25 laps of the 600 Restricted feature to take her
first win of the season. Rachel also set quick time, and was followed to
the line by Austin Sheridan and Chance Crum. Tristan Thomas, Brandee
Wood and Ashley Thompson were the heat race winners.
Jesse Schlotfeldt sliced and diced his way through the field to pick up his 5th feature win of the year. Jesse came from his 6th
place starting spot to take the win ahead of Eli Schmidt and Sawyer
Sorgenfrei. Schmidt and Bradley Parks won the heat races. Schlotfeldt
set quick time.
