Carroll Classic At Skagit Speedway

By Kelly Hart

Memorial Day Weekend racing at ASA Member track Skagit Speedway features the John Carroll Classic. On Saturday night May 28th all three classes of Sprint cars will be fighting for their share of the cash and points. The weekly purse has been increased in all divisions.
Big John Carroll passed away in1998. His racing legacy is that he was the only driver to win the Skagit Speedway and Sky Valley Speedway championship in the same year. Race fans all over the Northwest can still remember the hard charging #36 flying around the Northwest clay ovals.
The race is sponsored by IRI, Industrial Resources Incorporated owned by Jay Follman who raced many times over the years side by side with John, “Big John was a true hard core racer and a great no nonsense human being. He typified the true grass roots old school racer.”
The race format won’t appear any different to the fans. We will qualify 360’s and 410’s, run heats and main events in all divisions. Also on the schedule is the Outlaw Hornets point race.
The grandstands open at 5:30 p.m., with racing at 7:00 p.m.
