This Saturday Night at Western Speedway, Richlock Rentals presents the first appearance of the year for the WILROC Non Wing Sprint Car’s, WILROC officials expect a very good car count in what is becoming Western Speedway’s most popular class. The Island Stock Cars will compete in their third point’s event of the year, as well as the Old Time Racing Association, who will see their first race of the year, for the running of the Jim Haslam Memorial Hall of Fame Race.
The front gates open at 5:00 pm, qualifying at 6:00 and racing at 7:00 pm. Leading the charge in the WILROC Sprint Lites will be Guy Barrett in Mark Parkinson’s championship car from 2010, along with Jessie Dardengo who finished second in points last year, as well as up island drivers Ross Eli, Mark Gail and Wayde Heckford. Other Victoria drivers include Robbie Haslam, Stock Car Champion Ryan Wade, Chris Root, Jim Giles, Ron French, and Brian Bickford. With this strong contingent of cars, race fans should be in for some great open wheel racing at its best.
In the Island Stock Car Series division there will again be a new winner on Saturday night as last weekends action was rained out after the trophy dashes. Last year’s runner up driver Aaron Wilke, is the current point’s leader with 361 points, Wilke set fast time before the rain came last Saturday Night. Dave Reside sits in second place with 350 points, followed by Ryan Wade with 321 points, Rookie driver Mike Derepentany who moved up from the Mini Stocks holds down fourth position with 317 and Dan Myers rounds out the top five with 314 points.
The Old Time Racing Association will start its 34th year of competition this Saturday Night in the running of the Jim Haslam Memorial Race. These unique cars are steel bodied vintage cars from the years 1928 to 1040. Drivers expected to challenge for the win include George Jenson, Dan Morneau, the father son team of Joe and Steven Dardengo, Tom Cinnamon back after a eight year absence, James Cambell, Doug Shilitoe, Ron Simpson, Dean Gill and Rich Bennett.
