ALLARD WINS DIRT CUP!

6/19/2011 by Kelly Hart - Skagit Speedway Media and PR
Since 2005 Jonathan Allard has taken home three of the biggest paychecks of his career as winner of the prestigious Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at ASA member track Skagit Speedway. Saturday night, Allard led all 40 laps of the feature holding off preliminary nights winner Shane Stewart then fast closing Tim Kaeding for the $40,000.00 winner check.

Starting from the outside front row Allard was beat into the first corner on the initial restart by Stewart. When that start was called back Allard was given a second chance and used it to his advantage beating Stewart into turn one and was never bested. While Stewart was poking in and out, under and over Allard lap after lap the rest of the field was shaking out.

Eight caution flags and two red flags slowed the event. The first red flag was for Travis Jacobson at beginning of lap two who broke a front end in turn one. The second coming 15 laps later when Eric Fisher flipped exiting turn two.

Late in the race Stewart starting losing the nose wing dropping back off the pace and Tim Kaeding was there to pounce pulling into second. Jac Haudenschild had run in the top 5 most of the event and pulled up to third with a great pass and started reeling in the top two but laps were running out.

On the podium during the trophy and check presentation Allard said, "It's unbelievable. I want to thank my car owners Katie and Morrie Williams. My whole team Ashley and Shawn and all the guys, Chris and Paul and Drake and all the guys. They put a lot of effort in especially over the last month we've had."

Second place finisher Tim Kaeding said, "we're always a day late and dollar short here. Congratulations to Jonathan Allard." For Kaeding it was yet another bridesmaid finish at Dirt Cup. Finishing out the podium was Wooster, Ohio driver Jac Haudenschild in the Danny Kirkpatrick 7k car.

Winning the B main was Peter Murphey who transferred to the A main along with Toni Lutar, Brent Kaeding, Austen Wheatley, Jason Statler, Cory Eliason, Danielle Huson and Barry Martinez.
