KALISPELL, Mont. (June 25, 2011)-Nick Carey continued his dominance at Montana Raceway Park in the 10th Annual CHS Legend Thunder presented by Coors Light and the Hilton Garden Inn as the Washington state native earned his second Pro INEX championship in as many seasons.
Local favorite Tyler Corpron drove the wheels off his No. 56 McDonald’s coupe but was unable to keep with Carey in traffic en route to a second-place finish overall and in the Pro classification.
Carey started on the pole and led wire-to-wire with Corpron hanging close in the early portions of the race. Corpron had opportunities to catch Carey but the Snohomish, Wash. native’s No. 33 Carey Brothers Rockeries sedan was the class of the field as the win in Saturday’s main event gave Carey a clean sweep of the night when matched with his trophy dash and heat race victories.
“We love coming out to Montana Raceway Park and always have Legend Thunder circled on our calendar each year. To get this win was pretty cool. We had a good car tonight and the racing was very good upfront,” Carey said.
Next up for Carey is a trip to Charlotte Motor Speedway and competition in the famed Summer Shootout Series.
“We brought out this car to shake it down for Charlotte and the running of their $1-million race later this summer. Our other car is running well so this was a good test for this one.”
Duane Swanson earned the Masters Championship as a result of his third-place overall finish. Ben Matheson finished fourth overall to claim the Semi-Pro championship.
Adam Bishop rounded out the top-5 running order and claimed the third place trophy in the Pro division.
In the Wanna Race Thunder Roadsters a newcomer made his presence felt while three rivals put on a solid performance in the main event.
Brett Loving made his Thunder Roadster debut and the former karting star did not disappoint with a strong qualifying effort to match his top-5 finishes in the heat and main event.
Loving had a great view of Zach Havens John Logan and Scott Lee, long-time divisional rivals, who again thrilled the crowd with their side-by-side battles throughout the night. In the main event Havens finally had the right stuff to set a strong pace in front of Lee and Logan that earned the Kalispell native a roadster victory in Legend Thunder.
Brock Denney rode his No. 64 Denney Racing Bandolero to a clean sweep of racing in the Wanna Race Bandoleros as he bested his brother Bryce throughout the evening for wins in the trophy-dash, heat race and main event.
Todd Holleman continued his steady season with a third-place finish followed by newcomer Brandon McCully in fourth place.
Chris Warburton grabbed his second main event victory in as many weeks as the Flathead Beacon Bombers ran their first 50-lap finale of the season. Warburton also set fast time for the night in the fan favorite division to go along with a victory in his heat race.
Bill “Two Barrel” MCallum brought a second place finish in the main event with Kyle Koehler running third after leading the early portions of the race.
Kyle Bassler returned to victory lane as the defending champion of the Flathead Beacon Hornets held off Zach Havens and Dennis Gallaway for the win-Bassler’s first of the 2011 season.
Kendra Bicknell and Kyle Badour closed out the top-5 main event running order.
Racing returns to the Flathead Valley on July 2 as the Canadian SuperTrucks Late Model Series and the Lucas Oil Super Stocks will each run a 75-lap main event in celebration of Independence Day. Also in action will be the Flathead Beacon Hornets, Canadian Baby Grands and the Flathead Beacon Bombers. Racing kicks off at 6 p.m. with qualifying followed by a holiday-themed opening ceremony at 7.
