Bowles Tops Toronto Record Lap To Edge Ranger For First NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Pole

TORONTO -- Jason Bowles broke Andrew Ranger's track record Friday afternoon, and will look to beat him head-to-head Saturday in the Streets of Toronto 100.

Bowles, from Ontario, Calif., earned his first Keystone Light Pole Award with a lap of 1 minutes, 16.260 seconds (82.801 mph) around the 1.755-mile temporary road course at Toronto's Exhibition Place. It was the first NASCAR Canadian Tire Series pole award for Bowles, the 2009 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion.

Bowles' broke Ranger's track record, set last year, of 1:16.659 (80.820). Ranger's 2010 lap came when the course was 1.765 miles.

Ranger qualified second Friday with a fast lap of 1:16.526 (82.513), followed by points leader Scott Steckly at 1:17.002 (82.003). Kerry Micks and Don Thomson Jr. qualified fourth and fifth, respectively.

Ranger and Bowles finished 1-2 last year in the inaugural race at Toronto.

Four of Bowles' nine career wins in the K&N Pro Series West came have come on road courses. He has yet to win in three Canadian Tire Series starts, although a year ago he was leading the Canadian Tire Series race at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve before last-lap contact with eventual race winner Ranger.

This will be the first road course the two have raced each other in since that incident, and they will start it side-by-side on the front row.
