Richlock Rentals Presents the Roy Smith Memorial Cast Iron Nationals


This weekend at Western Speedway there will be two big nights of Open Wheel Racing action, Friday and Saturday nights will see the Cast Iron Nationals for the WILROC Winged Sprint Cars, along with the WILROC Non Winged Cars and the Island Dwarf Cars.  The main event on Saturday night for the WILROC Winged Sprint Cars will be for the running of the Roy Smith Memorial race.  Both nights will see a complete show with time trials, trophy dashes, heat races and main events for all three classes at the fast 4/10ths paved oval in Langford.

The methanol burning, high horsepower WILROC Winged Sprint Cars will be lead by points leader Scott Aumen from Duncan, Aumen has one win so so this year as he won the Billy Foster Memorial on June 10th, Aumen holds a 30 point lead 342 to 312 over Mill Bay's Darren Yates.  Randy Vincent who took the win at Saratoga Speedway on June 25th holds down third position with 295 points, Nanaimo's Mark Fisher sits in fourth position with 197 points.  Sidney's Rob Scott is tied for fifth spot with Spruce Grove, Alberta driver Mark Barcelo with 177 points, Scott a many time Stock Car and Modified Champion is coming off his biggest win ever in a Sprint Car as he won the Strawberry Cup at Western on June 11th.  Other drivers expected to battle for the win include Victoria driver's Jeff Montgomery, Matt Mansell and Gary Smith driving the Brian Mclees sprint car out of Olympia, Washington,  along with teamate Doug Mclees from Olympia.

The highly competitive WILROC Non Wing Sprint Cars will also be in action both Friday and Saturday nights.  Victoria's Jesse Dardengo leads the point standings and is the only driver with two feature wins, Dardengo leads fellow Victoria driver Deter Lejeune by 12 points 559 to 547.  Sidney's Chris Root, the only driver who runs a Roadster against the standard Sprint Cars holds down third position with 503 points, followed by Ron French with 451 points and Nanaimo's Wayde Heckford in fifth with 419 points. Other drivers expected to challenge for the win include Ryan Wade who won the last feature on July 2nd, Jeff Bird who has been very fast at the last couple of races, is hoping to have his engine problems fixed and challenge for the win, along with Rob Haslam and Guy Barrett.

The Island Dwarf Car Cub will also be in action both nights as Sean Sanger looks to make it two wins in a row, but he can expect tough challenges from fellow drivers Jeremy Stevens, Jim Pridge and Mike Meeres.
