Doyle Guffie’s Rallye Auto Sales presented Autism Speaks night at Deming Speedway on Friday night. The large crowd saw victories by Brock Lemley, Liam Ryan, Brayden Planko and Ashleigh Johnson as they raised funds for Autism Speaks to the tune of over $3,500 dollars. $1 from every admission ticket was donated to Autism Speaks, in conjunction with a silent auction, bake sale and helmet pass. In addition, the Northwest Mini Sprint Association donated their half of the 50/50 raffle as well as many of the drivers donating their purse for the evening.
It was a donnybrook of a battle out front in the Speedmart Hoosier 600 division. Brandon Benson led the first 16 laps of the 25 lap feature with Brock Lemley and Dustin O’Brien breathing down his neck lap after lap. On lap 17, Lemley altered his line slightly through the corners, opting to take a lower line on entry which gave him a straighter run off. The move paid off, as Brock pulled slightly ahead of Benson at the line to take the lead, which he would never relinquish as he brought home the win. O’Brien got around Benson one lap later and challenged Brock on the bottom a few times without success on his way to second. Benson brought the Schmidt #12 car home third. Heat wins went to Derek Torkelson, Liam Ryan and Eric Turner. O’Brien was the quick timer.
Liam Ryan picked up another win at Deming Speedway, this time coming in the 1200 class. Liam parlayed his front row starting position into a 25 lap wire to wire win, with his car getting stronger as the race grew long. Jason Bloodgood ran second and Aaron Fell was third. Fell was quick time. Bloodgood and Ryan won the heats.
Brayden Planko picked up another win in the 600 Restricted class. On lap 17, Planko found a narrow opening underneath Jacob Brown that he managed to squeeze through coming off of turn four. Planko held on through a couple of late race restarts to take the win over Rachel Westmoreland and Brown. Heat wins went to Derrick Moss, Alden Ostrom and Bill Mercer. Austin Sheridan was the fast qualifier.
Ashleigh Johnson caught a lucky break and capitalized on it for another main event win in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprint division. Race leader Isaac Abenroth looked to be checking out in front of the field when his left rear wheel came off, ending his evening and handing the lead and eventual win to Johnson. Sawyer Sorgenfrei and Darius Walker finished second and third respectively. Eli Schmidt and Johnson won the heat races. Abenroth was quick time.
