A pair of veterans found the right combinations in their race cars en route to their first feature wins of the year at Deming Speedway on North Coast Credit Union night. Past season champions JR Thomas and Derek Holmwood each won their first mains of the year in the 600 and 1200 classes. Jacob Brown scored win number five on the year in the 600 Restricted class and JJ Thomas picked up career win number one in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints.
JR Thomas held off a very game Brock Lemley over the final 5 laps to score his first feature win of the year in the Speedmart Hoosier 600s. Thomas started on the pole and led all 25 laps, but not without trading nerf bar polish with Lemley multiple times over the last few circuits for the hotly contested win. Liam Ryan took third. Heat race wins went to Reece Goetz, Thomas and Jared Peterson. Dustin O’Brien set quick time.
Rim riding Derek Holmwood found the right combination to get his car around the topside of Deming Speedway in the 1200 division, taking his DLX chassis to the win for the first time in 2011. Derek was followed to the win by Brock Lemley and Aaron fell who traded slidejobs and crossovers during the last few laps, thrilling the crowd in the process. Holmwood and Jared Gunderson took the heat race wins. Lemley was fast time.
Jacob Brown picked up another feature win at Deming Speedway in the 600 Restricted division. Race leader Kyle Mitchell and second place running Rachel Westmoreland made contact coming out of turn four on lap 19, which resulted in Westmoreland flipping and Mitchell breaking parts on the rear of his car. This handed the lead to Brown, who held off last week’s main winner Brayden Planko to take the victory. Derrick Moss set quick time and finished third on the feature. Bill Mercer, Planko and Alden Ostrom won the heats.
In the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprint class, JJ Thomas scored his first Deming Speedway victory with a wire to wire win. Thomas held off a hard charging Isaac Abenroth and Darius Walker to pick up the victory. Sawyer Sorgenfrei and Thomas were your heat race winners. Abenroth was the quick qualifier.
