Wild Night at Deming Ends with O’Brien in Victory Lane

8/26/11

With new clay laid down during the week, drivers didn’t know what to expect heading into Les Schwab night at Deming Speedway. At the end of a wild, crash filled evening, Dustin O’Brien found victory lane for the first time in 2011 in the Speedmart Hoosier 600 division. Aaron Fell, Austin Sheridan, Isaac Abenroth and Devin Barnes also won main events.

After finishing as the runner up an astounding nine times on the year, Dustin O’Brien survived a carnage filled A Main in the Speedmart Hoosier 600 division to take his first victory of the year. In a feature marred by at least three red flags on close to ten cautions, O’Brien led every lap of the time shortened 16 lap feature, followed by Alex Gauthier and JR Thomas. Liam Ryan was quick time. Heat wins went to Gauthier, Hayden Schmidt and Brock Lemley.

Survival was the name of the game in the 1200 main. With drivers navigating their way as best as possible around the soft surface, Aaron Fell emerged victorious by loosening his car up as much as possible to help navigate the various bumps and jumps. Aaron took over the lead from Frosty Metcalfe on lap 22 when Frosty bounced up the track in turn two. Fell was followed to the line by Brock Lemley and Metcalfe. Lemley was quick time. Derek Holmwood and Tyson Cross won the heats.

Austin Sheridan was happy to be the recipient of some good luck in the 600 Restricted feature. Austin was moved to the pole position after the initial front row could not stay side by side to start the race. This put Sheridan on the point, a spot he would not relinquish. Bill Mercer finished a career best second and Derrick Moss ran third. Hannah Lindquist was the fast qualifier and heat wins went to Ian Humphries, Dylan Resch and Jacob Brown.

Ashton Dial and Darius Walker’s misfortune paved the way for another Isaac Abenroth victory in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprint division. Dial had Walker right on his tail on the white flag lap coming into turn two as both drivers were looking for career best finishes. Dial unfortunately found a rut, hooking it and sending him tumbling, catching Darius in his wake. The wreck would cost both drivers their positions, handing the lead and the win to Isaac Abenroth two laps later. Ashleigh Johnson finished second and Sawyer Sorgenfrei was third. Abenroth set quick time. Johnson and Jesse Schlotfledt won the heats

Cage Carts came to Deming Speedway to test and put on an exhibition race. Devin Barnes was the class of the field, winning both the heat race and the main.
