(Snohomish, WA) 9/26/11 by Kelly Hart – Racinghartmedia
Over the years very few rookies have won Championships at the high-banked 3/10th mile clay oval at Skagit Speedway. In 2011 Derek Roberts of Snohomish, WA accomplished just such a feat. With the highest car count of any division and plenty of competition night in and night out, winning a Sportsman Sprint Championship is demanding of preparation, perspiration and a little luck. The #42 Roberts Racing team did just that this year.
How do you build a championship season? How about 14 top five finishes which included 3 wins, 2 second places, 6 thirds, two 4ths and one 5th place. The lone fifth place finish was the lowest the car finished all year. Included in the final point total was 5 heat race wins plus passing points and the only two times the division timed in both nights were fast times. Plus the car completed every lap of every race this season.
Roberts Racing would like to thank our sponsors who helped make this season possible. They include Onshore Exploration Corporation, Bardahl, the Haddelands, Pacific Roast Coffee, Burlington Collision,
