On Labor Day Weekend the Shaylen Raye Motorsports #18 driven by Travis Jacobson raced with the World of Outlaws at Skagit Speedway in Alger, WA. The weekend had some definite highlights but was punctuated by a hard crash ending the second night of action prematurely.
On Friday night Travis was the fastest in hot laps giving a sign of things to come. In time trials Travis was 9th at 11.524 seconds out of 28 cars taking a time in lap. A second place finish in the heat race earned Travis a place in the WoO dash to set up his starting place for the main event. His eighth place finish in the dash set up a 4th row outside start for the 30-lap main event. The Shaylen Raye Motorsports #18 was up to the task as at various times in the race Travis would pass Steve Kinser, Donny Schatz and Paul McMahan. At the end of the race lap times were as fast as anyone. Travis finished a WoO best 6th place. Post race Jacobson said, “It’s pretty cool to pass Kinser, Schatz and McMahan. The car was awesome as it has been all year and I can’t thank my crew especially Brandon and Brady for their work.”
With a full head of steam heading into the Saturday half of the two nights of racing Travis started the night with an 11.142 time trial lap bringing the crowd to it’s feet. At the time time of the lap Travis was sitting second quick. At the conclusion of time trials Travis wound up 6th quick in a field of 26. A third place finish in his heat left Travis outside of the dash. Starting in the middle of the field Travis picked up two positions in the first two laps to move up to 7th place then up to 6th by lap 8. After a yellow flag on the 9th lap Travis regained the two spots he had lost earlier and was back to 6th moving his way forward Travis battled Jonathan Allard and Paul McMahon for 4th for multiple laps. A lap 23 caution brough Travis to the 6th position restart outside of Allard. Contact was made and Travis went over hard on the front stretch in front of the flag stand ending his evening. Travis got out of the car, battered and bruised but otherwise okay. At the time of the incident Travis was running 6th, when the 40 laps were complete he wound up 22nd.
