Saratoga Speedway September 10

Two track Champions where crowned on Saturday night. #53 Kevin Noble won the I.M.C.A Modified championship by 88 points over #8 Brad Purdy, and #11 Justin Beaulieu and Mike Dionne won the Bomber championship by 73 points over #24 Charlie Ackerman.

The Hornet cars were also on the schedule on Saturday. #27 Doug Mclean set fast time in qualifying with a time of 19.115. #68 David Cates won the B dash, and #20 William Boyes won the A dash. The Hornets ran heats and reverse heats on Saturday; The B heat went to #77 Jason Clark, with the B reverse going to #48 Tyler Townsend. Boyes won the A heat, with the reverse heat win going to #81 Jeremy Stormo. All 18 cars entered the 30 lap main event. #13 Jason Fraser held the lead for the first 20 laps until his brother #21 Gord Fraser took over the lead and he never looked back from there. #14 Kyle Fallowfield won the B main which was combined into the A main.

Twelve Motorcycles took to the track on Saturday. #68 Bruce Moran set fast time with a time of 21.947. #398 Menno Jongsma won the B dash, and #12 Brett Liberion won the A dash. Moran dominated both heats, taking the win in the normal heat and the reverse heat. #13 Joe Kiraly led the first 16 laps of the 18 lap but on lap 16, Moran finally got around Kiraly and never looked back from there. Kiraly took 2nd, with 3rd going to #46 Jeff Sedun.

The I.M.C.A. Modifieds were running their last race of the season on Saturday. #44 Tim Openshaw set fast time in qualifying with a time of 15.532. #53 Kevin Noble came into the night the point’s leader and continued to grow his lead through-out the night. Noble won the dash and the heat race and held a 118 point lead going into the main event. #32 Dano Bryant held off Noble to win the 8 lap reverse heat. The 30 lap main saw #32 Dano Bryant hold the lead for the first 18 laps until #89 Greg Sagmoen took over the lead. Openshaw moved his way into 2nd and soon found himself on the inside of Sagmoen and took the lead on lap 27 and he never looked back from their, winning the final main event of the 2011 season for the I.M.C.A Modifieds. Even though Noble ended up 2 laps down, he still managed to win the Points championship. 

Congratulations to #53 Kevin Noble on winning his 2nd straight I.M.C.A Championship.








The Bomber cars also made their last appearance of the season on Saturday. Coming into the night, #24 Charlie Ackerman held a 10 point lead over #99 Gilles Cyr, but Cyr soon found himself back in the lead, setting fast time in qualifying with a time of 17.844. #5 Darren Larson won the B dash, with the A dash win going to #97 Rob Gaudreault. Gaudreault also won the only heat for the Bomber cars. 

Going into the main, Cyr held a 57 point lead over Ackerman, and a 62 point lead over #11 Mike Dionne. The 50 lap event saw #24 Charlie Ackerman take the lead on lap 9 and spread his lead by 10 car lengths over Gaudreault. On lap 25, Cyr had to go into the pits due to a flat tire, putting him 6 laps down and out of contention for the championship. Gaudreault and Dionne soon caught up to Ackerman, with Dionne getting the last advantage, taking the lead on lap 43 and never looked back from there. Gaudreault finished 2nd, with 3rd going to Ackerman. After all was said and done, #11 Mike Dionne and Justin Beaulieu won the championship by 73 points over Ackerman, and 85 points over 3rd place Cyr. 

Congratulations to Mike Dionne on his 2nd championship in the Bomber car division, and to Justin Beaulieu on his first ever Championship at Saratoga Speedway, only 6 more championships to catch his dad Martin Beaulieu.

Extra laps… Next weekend marks the last race of the 2011 racing season at Saratoga Speedway. The Hornet cars, Crash to pass cars and the Roadrunners will all by having the double points championship night next weekend. Going into the weekend, #72 Travis Stevenson holds a 37 point lead over #01 “The General” Jeff May in the Crash to pass division. #01 Kevin Lawrenuk holds a 232 point lead over #02 Daryl Cahill for the A Hornet championship, and #17 Brad Dimitrov holds an 11 point lead over his dad #59 Ted Dimitrov for the Hornet B championship. #25 Andrea Cannon had the Roadrunner championship won for next weekend. Cannon holds an 1171 point lead over #66 Nick Leavitt. Some of our local Hornet car drivers went up to Motoplex Speedway in Vernon B.C this weekend. #02 Daryl Cahill won the main event, #01 Kevin Lawrenuk finished 3rd, and #08 Daryn Cahill finished 4th. There will also be a huge firework display next weekend, which you don’t want to miss.
