PENTICTON, BRITISH COLUMBIA – With the 2011 racing season now over, Sarah Cornett-Ching and her fellow racers were honored for their achievements in Awards ceremonies for both the OK Tire ARCA West Series, as well as the West Coast Sportsman Series last month.
The OK Tire ARCA West series awards banquet took place on October 15th in Prince George, British Columbia. Sarah was presented her award for finishing in eighth in series point standings, and also took home hardware as the series Rookie of the Year, and Most Improved Driver. Sarah’s father Joe took home a prestigious award from the banquet, winning the Most Dedicated Crew Member for 2011.
Just two weeks later, Cornett-Ching attended the West Coast Sportsman Series Awards Banquet in Vernon, British Columbia. Sarah was honored for her fourth place finish in the West Coast Sportsman Series for 2011, and again picked up the award for Most Improved Driver.
“This was a great way to end our season,” said Cornett-Ching. “If you told me last winter I would have raced in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this year and won all these awards I’m not sure I would have believed it. I’m already overwhelmed making plans for 2012.”
Coming up this weekend, Sarah Cornett-Ching will be in North Carolina, participating in one of the final events of the Race 101 program. Cornett-Ching was accepted into Race 101 at the beginning of the year, and has learned a lot over the course of the program, from chassis setup and other technical areas of the sport to off track marketing and communication skills that will help take Cornett-Ching to the next level of the sport.
“We had a great season, and learned a lot along the way. I can’t thank everyone enough for all the support that they have given me over the season”, says Cornett-Ching. “I could not have done this without the support from My dad (Joe Cornett-Ching), Jason Anderson, Roy Clissold, Mike Ernst, Cory McGivern, Becky Mytting, Korbin Thomas, Kendall Thomas, Earl Thomas, Doug Waller and everyone else”.
Sarah is also quick to praise her sponsors for their support this season. Sarah’s success would not have been possible without the help of Snap On Tools, Aaron’s, Racecom, ANJ Automotive, Lordco, and Serious Performance.
In 2012, Cornett Ching is hoping to put together a marketing program that will allow her to run a limited schedule in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. She also plans to battle for the OK Tire ARCA West Series championship.
Since 2005, Sarah Cornett-Ching has racked up a pile of awards, including Most Aspiring driver as well as Champion in her division that year. Two years later, after moving up a class, she claimed the championship again. In 2008 she claimed her first ever top five finish in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series, and the following year she finished third overall in the series points standings. In addition to her third place in points, she also claimed awards for Most Improved driver, Most Dedicated to the Sport and West Coast Sportsman Rookie of the Year Award. In 2010 she claimed fifth place in points in both the Okanagen Street Stock Series and the West Coast Sportsman Series. She was also named Most Improved Driver and Most Dedicated Driver of the West Coast Sportsman Series. In 2011, Sarah again won Most Improved Driver in the West Coast Sportsman Series, finishing fourth in points, and won Rookie of the Year, and Most Improved driver in the OK Tire ARCA West Series, finishing eighth in points.
