February
15, 2012. St. Thomas, Ontario racer DJ Kennington will once again be
at the wheel of the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge competing in the NASCAR
Canadian Tire Series this summer. Kennington’s association with Castrol
is approaching two decades and one of the longest continuous
partnerships in Canadian racing.
Following
his championship winning season in 2010, Kennington scored race
victories at Mosport International Raceway & Kawartha Speedway last
season, but fell just short of another title and was forced to settle
for second overall. “We gave it a good run last year but came up just a
little short repeating” said Kennington. “Our guys are all anxious to
get back and get back on top because we like finishing first better” he
added.
Having
the continuous support of primary sponsor Castrol which features the
Castrol Edge brand on the #17 Dodge is something that gives Kennington
and his team much more than the resources to compete at an elite level.
“I’ve said this for many years, I simply wouldn’t be where I am and
would not have been able to win races and a championship without the
backing from Castrol” said Kennington. “They have welcomed me into
their family from the beginning and our relationship continues to grow,
nobody’s had better support than me” he stated.
The
continuation of the Castrol partnership with DJ Kennington also has the
company excited. Marketing Communications Manager for Wakefield Canada,
the distributors of Castrol Edge, Marsha McLaughlin said “partnering
with DJ Kennington has been an important part of our marketing program
with Castrol for nearly two decades. We’re proud of all that DJ has
accomplished in racing and look forward to another exciting season
together helping him edge his way to another championship”.
The season opening event for the 2012 NASCAR Canadian Tire series will take place Saturday May 20th
at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, formerly Mosport International
Raceway where Kennington is the defending race winner. Again this
season fans will be able to watch all of the series races on TSN. Check
local listings for times. Race fans are encouraged to keep up to date
with the latest team news in several ways. Race fans should bookmark
the team website www.djkracing.ca and follow them on twitter, @djkracing and fans are also suggested to join the Facebook Group DJK Racing.
