On a warm, clear Friday evening at Deming Speedway, Dustin O’Brien reminded the large crowd why he is the reigning Hoosier Speedmart 600 division champion, by making a late race pass for the win on EMD Construction / DK Diesel / Little Caesars night. Other feature winners included Liam Ryan, Shaun Holtorf and Ashton Dial.

The 600 A Feature was an absolute slobberknocker of a race, with the lead being contested for 25 laps around the super slick 1/6 mile clay oval. Liam Ryan set out to the early advantage, with Spud Allen quickly coming up to challenge. The duo went back and forth, with Ryan catfishing around the bottom and Allen planting his right rear on the cushion all the way around. Ryan held the point this way for 16 laps with Allen right on his rear nerf until contact between the two sent Ryan careening into the turn three fence, collecting third place running Brock Lemley in the exchange. Allen would take point on the restart, and lead until lap 20 when O’Brien, who had been in the top five all race, found his car handling to perfection and blasted by Spud on the inside to take the position. With Allen desperately trying to make the top work again, O’Brien kept his car glued to the bottom to secure the victory, his second of the year. Allen held on for second and Chase Schmidt was third. Heat wins went to O’Brien, Brayden Planko, Allen and Barry Martinez. Jared Peterson was fast time.

Ryan was looking to score the rare two win night, as prior to his 600 performance, he had just won the feature in the 1200 division, taking the lead on lap eight and holding it through the rest of the 25 lap feature. Second was Tyson Cross and third was Eric Turner. Aaron Fell set quick time. Cross, Eric Drake and Duane Mackey won the heats.

Shaun Holtorf returned to victory lane at Deming Speedway in the 600 Restricted division, as he substitute drove for Brandee Wood and put the RAW motorsports #1W in victory lane. Holtorf held off stiff challenges from the field, including second place finisher Chance Crum. Tristan Thomas was scored third. Austin Sheridan was fast time and won the first heat race. Holtorf and Spencer Constance won the other heats.

Ashton Dial won his second career feature and his first of 2012 in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints, leading Sawyer Sorgenfrei and Jesse Schlotfeldt for all 15 laps. Schlotfeldt set quick time. Heat wins went to Lynden Lebedinski and Tyson Lemley.
