Liam
Ryan and Brayden Planko provided the on track fireworks on a beautiful
night at Deming Speedway. On Les Schwab night, Ryan and Planko thrilled
the crowd with their close, nose to tail and side by side racing in the
600 feature that was won by Liam. Other feature winners included Tyson
Cross in the 1200s, Rachel Westmoreland in the 600 Restricted and Jesse
Schlotfeldt in the Jr Sprints.
Once
again, the Hoosier Speedmart 600 main event was a barnburner of an
affair, as Brayden Planko and Liam Ryan went toe to toe like two
champion prize fighters for the feature win. With Planko on the bottom
and Ryan riding the cushion, the pair went wheel to wheel for the first
10 laps of the feature before encountering heavy traffic. With slower
cars approaching, Ryan made a bonsai move up and around Planko coming
out of two, then dove to the inside of three to slam the door and secure
the lead on lap 13. After an ensuing caution flag, Ryan jetted away
from the pack to capture the win, with Planko taking second and Derek
Torkelson finishing third. Spud Allen set quick time and heat wins went
to Brock Lemley, Jared Peterson, Greg Hamilton and Dougie James.
Tyson
Cross had his car on absolute rails en route to a wire to wire win in
the 1200 division. Cross took off on the initial start and enjoyed a
full straightaway lead or more for the duration of the contest. Spud
Allen came up the field to finish second and Eric Turner was the fastest
qualifier and third place finisher. Heat wins went to Eric Drake, Allen
and Steven Hendrickson.
Rachel
Westmoreland made her front row starting position pay off, as the young
lady racer led all 25 laps of the 600 Restricted feature to take her
first win of the season. Rachel also set quick time, and was followed to
the line by Austin Sheridan and Chance Crum. Tristan Thomas, Brandee
Wood and Ashley Thompson were the heat race winners.
Jesse Schlotfeldt sliced and diced his way through the field to pick up his 5th feature win of the year. Jesse came from his 6th
place starting spot to take the win ahead of Eli Schmidt and Sawyer
Sorgenfrei. Schmidt and Bradley Parks won the heat races. Schlotfeldt
set quick time.
