Liam
Ryan continued his torrid pace at Deming Speedway on Little Caesars /
Pepsi night by setting a new track record in the 1200 division and
taking the A Main win in the Hoosier Speedmart 600 division. Other
feature winners included Clennon Holloway, Ashley Thompson and Sawyer
Sorgenfrei.
For
Ryan, the night started with another new track record in the 1200
division, as he bested his previous mark by three tenths of a second at
9.684. With Mother Nature helping the track retain plenty of moisture
throughout the night, it would be up to Ryan to work his magic in lapped
cars to pick up a victory after deep inverts in both his contested
divisions. The opportunity would arise in the 600 A Main, as Ryan used a
lapped car to his advantage on the 22nd circuit, pinning
race leader Dougie James to the high groove and leading a freight train
underneath him as he secured the lead and the eventual win three laps
later. Brandon Turner and Dustin O’Brien also drove underneath James in
the exchange, finishing second and third respectively. O’Brien set a new
track record in the 600 division with a lap of 10.016. He also won his
heat race. Other heat wins went to Turner and James.
In
the 1200 division, Clennon Holloway took advantage of his pole position
start to easily lead all 25 laps of the A Main for his first win in
roughly two seasons. The seasoned veteran smoothly hit his marks around
the fast surface, beating Aaron Fell and Brock Lemley for the W. Heat
race wins went to Fell and Jacob Buckenmeyer.
Ashley
Thompson picked up her second career victory in the 600 Restricted
class, inheriting the race lead on lap 11 following leader Ashleigh
Johnson’s collision with the front stretch wall that also collected
third place running Austin Sheridan. Thompson would fend off second
place Kyle Mitchell to pick up the victory. Third place was Dylan Resch.
Sheridan set quick time. Heat wins went to Mitchell, Hannah Lindquist
and Tristan Thomas.
In
the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints, Sawyer Sorgenfrei accomplished two
major feats: His first career A Main win and a stop to the four race win
streak of Jesse Schlotfeldt. Sawyer led all 15 laps of the main to
collect the win, holding off a hard charging Schlotfeldt and Brett
Mitchell at the end. Schlotfeldt and Sorgenfrei were the only two
drivers to win races in the division all night, with Sawyer taking a
heat win and Jesse winning the other heat as well as setting fast time
in time trials.
