After ending their 2011 season with an amazing firework show, Saratoga
Speedway opened up their 2012 season with yet another amazing firework
show, accompained by some great racing by the Hornet cars, Roadrunners
and Crash to Pass cars.
The Roadrunner class was dominated on the night by #66 Nick Leavitt, who set fast time at 20.492, won the only dash, won the only heat and dominated the main event, taking the lead on the first lap and never looking back from there. #25 Mike Whitehead, who was filling in for Andrea Cannon for the main finished 2nd, with 3rd going to #59 Ted Dimitrov.
The Hornet car division saw a new track record set on the night, being set by #02 Daryl Cahill with a time of 18.067, beating the old record of 18.122 set by Gord Fraser on May 22nd of last year. The Hornet cars were split into 2 seperate divisions this year; an A class and a B class. The Hornet D dash went to #59 Mike Ryce, which was his first ever win at Saratoga Speedway; The C dash went to #28 Brianne Fenn, the B to #03 Jennifer Lawrenuk and the A to #08 Daryn Cahill. The Hornet B heat was won by #76 Bob Fraser, with the A heat going to #08 Daryn Cahill. For the main event, we put all of the A and B cars into one great 35 lap main event. #27 Steve McLean held the lead for the first 15 laps until #40 Dave Erdman took over the lead, which was short lived, loosing his lead on lap 21 to #21 Gord Fraser who never looked back from there, winning the first main event of the 2012 season in the Hornet Division. 2nd in the A division went to #08 Daryn Cahill who had a very solid night, and 3rd going to #07 Brandon Phillips. #40 Dave Erdman won the B main event, with 2nd going to #27 Steve McLean and 3rd going to #59 Mike Ryce.
The Crash to Pass had a memorial event to start the night, doing 5 laps and a huge smokeshow in memory of the late Jarrod Sagmoen who was a fellow race car driver and a member of Mr. Ugly Racing, R.I.P Jarrod. Fast time in qualifying went to #88 Troy Tarbuck who set a time of 18.743. #40 Cam Edward won the B dash, with the A dash going to #89 Gregg Sagmoen. The B heat was won by #40 Cam edward and the A heat was won by #88 Troy Tarbuck. All 12 cars took to the track for the 20 lap main event. #01 "The General" Jeff May led the main for the first 12 laps, until #88 Troy Tarbuck took over the lead and never looked back from there, winning the first Crash to Pass main event of the season. 2nd went to #72 Travis Stevenson with 3rd going to #01 "The General" Jeff May.
Extra Laps.... Next weekend will feature the Bomber cars, Motorcycles, Dwarf cars and the I.M.C.A Modifieds who are all making their first appearences of the year. May long weekend (19th and 20th) will be our first appearence of the Monster Trucks, accompained by the Hornet cars, Roadrunners and Crash to Pass cars. Rockstar and California Kid will be the 2 trucks crushing cars over the weekend. Rockstar is a 2004 Custom Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab, and is driven by Billy Payne. California kid is a 1934 Ford Sedan, which is driven by BJ Johnson. Last season both of these monster trucks put on great perfromances and both trucks rolled over! so make sure you mark your calenders for these great upcoming events.
