Saratoga Speedway - May 12, 2012

Clear skies overcast a great night of racing at Saratoga Speedway on Saturday sponsored by Interfor. The I.M.C.A Modifieds, Dwarfs cars, Bomber cars and the Motorcycles put on 4 great main events on Saturday.

The Motorcycle division was dominated by #68 Bruce Moran. Bruce set fast time in qualifying with a time of 22.643. Bruce carried over his winning ways into the 2012 season, winning 3 out of 4 races on the night. #5 Ben Duperron was the only other winner in the Motorcycle division, winning the first of 2 heats. The 10 lap main saw Bruce start on the backstretch, half a lap down from the rest of the field. Duperron held the lead until the final lap, but Moran passed Duperron on the final corner, taking the win in the first main event of the season for the Motorcycles.

The I.M.C.A brought out 6 cars on Saturday, with many more to come in upcoming nights. #00 Bart Smith, who was driving a Modified for the first time in 10 plus years, set fast time in qualifying with a time of 15.335. The only dash was won by #92 Dano Bryant. Smith dominated from this point on, winning both of the heats, starting in the back of the pack for both races. Bryant held the lead for the first 12 laps of the 30 lap main event, but Smith finally got around him in turn 1 and dominated from that point on. Bryant and #44 Tim Openshaw had a heated battle for 2nd and 3rd, but in the end Bryant managed to hold off Openshaw to take 2nd, with 3rd going to Openshaw.

The Dwarf car division had an amazing 30 lap main event, with 3 cars battling for 1st for 12 laps. Fast time in qualifying went to #11 Mike Meeres with a time of 15.823. The B dash went to #54 John McNabb, with the A going to #34 Ike Armitage. The first heat was won by Meeres, with the invert heat going to Armitage. The 30 lap main event saw #34 Ike Armitage take the early lead and stretch his lead to half a lap. Armitage was involved in a caution on lap 18, putting him to the back of the pack and giving the lead to #8 Mike Schott. After Schott and Meeres battled for 5 laps, Armitage finally caught up making it a 3 car battle for 1st. A lap car on lap 28 made it 4 wide on the backstretch, with Meeres getting the advantage from the lap car taking over the lead from Schott, sending Schott into 3rd with Armitage taking over 2nd and that's how the main would end, with the win going to #11 Mike Meeres who after the race said "this was probably one of the best races I have ever raced in".

The Bomber cars also had a great 35 lap main event. Fast time in qualifying went to #98 Bobby Cyr with a time of 17.944. The B dash was won by #5 Darren Larson, with the A dash going to #24 Charlie Ackerman. The first heat went to Ackerman with the invert heat going to last years champion #11 Justin Beaulieu. The 35 lap main saw Ackerman and #72 Stewart Lee pull away from the pack very early and spread there lead up to over half a lap. #29 Gilles Cyr was battling his way into 3rd when he got a huge break, with a caution flag coming out on lap 20, putting him on the bumper of 2nd place Lee. The restart saw Lee pass Ackerman going into turn 2 and taking over the lead. Ackerman had some mechanical issues, spinning out on lap 25, taking himself out of the race. Lee and Cyr battled from there, but Cyr couldn't find a way around Lee with the eventual win going to #72 Stewart Lee. Cyr took 2nd with 3rd going to #9 Darrel Larson.
