Martin Truex Jr. thought he was going to die in crash

In an episode of Inside NASCAR that airs Wednesday night on Showtime, Michael Waltrip says of Truex, “He said as soon as he let off the gas, and it was hung wide open, he thought he was going to die.”
Martin Truex Jr. said he thought he would die in Sunday's fiery crash at Martinsville.
Truex was slowed when he hit Kasey Kahne’s car, but Truex still smashed nearly head-on into the Turn 3 wall. The damage to the cars and wall was severe enough to cause a red flag and delay the race for 25 minutes.
Martinsville has SAFER barriers, which absorb energy in a crash and have been widely credited with decreasing severe injuries in NASCAR.
“Ten years ago, I wouldn't be standing here,” Truex said after the wreck.
