The season started with seven Bomber class cars and two Thunder class cars.
We had issues right from the start with one bomber class car only managing to complete one timed lap of qualifying before being parked for the day.
It looked like records would be broken early this year with the #12 Thunder car of Kent Goddard breaking the track record, but on the subsequent Tear down, things were found that didn't follow the rules so the time was disallowed.
As there were only two Thunder cars for the first race day the racers were only racing exhibition races, which didn't lessen the carnage as in the A Thunder Trophy dash Rookie driver Marcel Spory driving the #68 Mustang lost control on the back straightaway and slammed into the inside retaining wall, seriously bending the car. Not sure if that team will be able to fix the car and get it back out to the track again.
The B Bomber class which is made up of mostly rookie drivers again this year had multiple winners with all three of their races being won by different cars.
- The Trophy Dash was won by car # 122 driven by Tyler Morton.
- The Heat Race was won by car # 8 driven by Dennis Beaudette.
- The Main event was won by car # 1 driven by Rookie driver Sunny Singh.
The A Bomber races were all won by the same driver and car # 1 Terry Reinert. But from early signs it looks like Terry is going to have a battle with Car # 116 driven by Trevor Reinert (no relation) who finished 2nd in both the trophy and the heat race and was running a strong second in the Main unit his lead tire decided to lose all of its tread on the track.
We had the media out this past weekend for an exhibition race with Astral media well represented with Mike Nagle, Tamara Weber and Kayla Buchannon coming out to race with the lone print reporter of Merv Ritchie from the Terrace Daily out to challenge them. Mike Nagle is the defending champ for this race, having won it last year, so he volunteered to take the lone standard transmission car out and let the rest of them run the automatics. Mike started from the back and quickly jumped into a lead that he never gave up securing the first win of the season for the # 116 Bomber car. So Mike successfully defended his title for the media race. Behind him saw a very determined battle for second with Kayla Buchannon refusing to let Merv Ritchie get by her. The two of them battled for most of the race with Kayla managing to hang onto 2nd place for the race.
Next race June 4th. We will have at least nine Bombers out for that day, possibly more, and at least three Thunders.
See you all out for the next race day.
