#01 “The General” Jeff May picked up his first main event win-Saratoga

  BY TERRY GUEST
May started his night off strong, by setting fast time in qualifying with a time of 18.898. May competed hard in the dash, but #2 Glenn Pinto managed to hold him off. Pinto took an early lead in the 8 lap heat, but soon Pinto would come face to face with May. May would eventually spin out Pinto and take the lead and the win in the only heat on the night for the Crash to Pass. The 20 lap feature saw May take the lead on the first lap and spread it 5 car lengths. A popcorn yellow on lap 9 gave #11 Dan Kemp the lead, putting May to the back. May would battle his way back, re-taking the lead on lap 14 and never looking back from there. 2nd place went to #2 Glenn Pinto, and 3rd to Kemp.

#28 Andrew Buchanan once again set fast time in qualifying in the Roadrunner class, setting a time off 19.414. Buchanan has set fast time in every qualifying session this 2011 season. Buchanan’s old streak of winning dashes ended on Saturday; #19 Weston Lane picked up the win in the dash. #25 Andrea Cannon led the 8 lap heat for all but 1 lap; lap 8, giving the win to #28 Andrew Buchanan. Andrea once again started a lap ahead of the field, meaning that the rest of the field would have to make up a full lap to catch her. Cannon led 8 laps until Buchanan took over the lead and went on to win the main. 2nd went to #19 Weston Lane and 3rd to Cannon.

30 Hornet cars qualified on Saturday, with fast time going to #21 Gord Fraser, setting a time of 18.149. The C dash went to #05 Trevor Cannon, which marked his first ever win at Saratoga Speedway. The B dash went to #08 Daryn Cahill and the A to #01 Kevin Lawrenuk. #17 Brad Dimitrov led the C heat for 7 laps until #15 Lane Pearson took over the lead and the eventual win. #84 Jake Townsend won his first race of the season on Saturday, taking the win in the B heat. #07 Brandon Philips led all but 1 lap to take home the won on the A heat, which marked his first A heat win of the year. Pearson battled his way from the very back to take the win in the C invert heat. #76 Bob Fraser led the B invert heat for 4 laps until #57 James Buchanan took over the lead and never looked back from there. This also marks the first win for James Buchanan this 2011 season. #20 William Boyes started on the pole in the A invert heat and managed to hold off the field from there, taking the win. The 25 lap B feature saw #17 Brad Dimitrov get out to an early lead. Dimitrov held this lead for 21 laps until #84 Jake Townsend took over the lead. An altercation on lap 22 caused #33 Tristin Gait to be black flagged, also taking out #42 Jordan Phillips in the altercation. Townsend would go on to take the lead with 2nd going to Dimitrov and 3rd to #03 Duane Lawrenuk, who was filling on for his daughter Jennifer on the night. The 30 lap A feature saw #09 Cameron Philips take the lead on lap 1. Phillips held this lead for 17 laps until #02 Daryl Cahill took over the lead. Cahill would stretch out his lead from there and would go on to win the A feature. This is Cahill’s 2nd main event win of the year. #21 Gord Fraser finished 2nd and #08 Daryn Cahill finished 3rd.

Extra laps…Next week will mark the first appearance of the Wilroc Sprint cars and the Wilroc Lite cars. The Old Time Modified stock cars have also been added onto the schedule. The I.M.C.A Modifieds will fill out the racing card on the night. Our 30th year anniversary is vastly approaching. An amazing night of Fireworks, amazing shows from the Jet Dragster and the Limo Jump, and great racing from the Dwarf cars, Bomber cars and the I.M.C.A Modifieds will take place on July 2nd.
