KALISPELL, Mont. (June 24, 2011) - The 10th running of a Northwest tradition, Montana Raceway Park’s Legend Thunder INEX National Qualifying event, is set for Saturday night featuring Pro, Semi-Pro, Masters, Bandoleros and Thunder Roadsters.
Also racing will be the Flathead Beacon Bombers in a 50-lap main event and the popular Flathead Beacon Hornets.
All of the weekend’s racing action is sponsored by CHS, Coors Light and the Hilton Garden Inn.
Legend Thunder features a wide-range of talent from across the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada including past champions Nic Carey who has run in the famed Charlotte Motor Speedway Summer Shootout Series. Local drivers Tyler Corpron, Devin Clayton and Dalton Halden will be out to defend the home turf in their respective divisions.
Thunder Roadster action features MRP’s defending champion Scott Lee who will be aiming for his second consecutive Legend Thunder championship in the class. Expected to challenge Lee will be his arch-rival, Zach Havens, along with Corpron who will be pulling double-duty over the weekend.
The Denney family has had a tremendous amount of early season success in the Wanna Race Bandolero division and with this weekend offering a chance to qualify for a spot in the national event, brothers Brock and Bryce will be on top of their game. Out to stop the duos momentum will be local drivers Todd Holleman and Bailey Erickson and few a surprises along the way.
Chris Warburton, who holds the track qualifying record in the Flathead Beacon Bomber division, heads into the weekend looking for his second straight main event victory in the class. Ray Young grabbed the season’s first race win and leads the drivers championship standings heading into Saturday night’s racing action.
Racing in the Flathead Beacon Hornet division has been wide-open this season as Ryan Krause and Tyler Volkman had strong outings in the classes only main event of the season, held May 21. Defending champion, Kyle Basler, had a sub-par outing in the season opening event but should contend for victory this weekend.
Montana Raceway Park is offering a special summer kick-off ticket price for the 10th Annual CHS Legend Thunder presented by Coors Light and the Hilton Garden Inn. Available at the ticket booth beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, adults will be $10 with juniors 5-12 only $8 and a family pass of two adults and three juniors just $38. All children under the age of 5 are admitted free.
The traditional kids bicycle giveaway will be held at half-time and plenty of promotional items will be available throughout the night for fans of all ages. Racing gets underway Saturday with qualifying set for 6 p.m., opening ceremonies at 7 with red-hot racing action to follow.
