Fell and Ryan Return to Victory Lane at Deming Speedway

By Kaleb Hart
Les Schwab Night at Deming Speedway found two drivers who had visited victory lane many times over the course of 2010 return to winner’s circle for the first in 2011. Liam Ryan and Aaron Fell both won for the first time on the year in the 600 and 1200 division respectively. Austin Sheridan took his first career win in the 600 restricted class and Ashleigh Johnson won for the first time on the year in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints.

Aaron Fell pulled off the ever elusive clean sweep in the 1200 class. After rolling an eight for the invert, Aaron methodically worked his way forward until he was right on the rear nerf of race leader Brad Davison. On a lap 18 restart, Fell found traction on the inside of turn one, blasting by Davison coming through turn two to assume the lead and take his first win of the season. Aaron also set quick time and won his heat race. Davison hung on for second and Brock Lemley was third. Other heat winners were Davison and Austen Wheatley.

Liam Ryan practically made his home in victory lane last year. The reigning 600 restricted class champion chose to concentrate his efforts on the 600 and 1200 divisions. On this particular Friday night, Ryan made his return to victory lane by winning his first career main in the Speedmart Hoosier 600 class. Liam took the lead on lap nine from Brandon Turner, as he found traction on the bottom of the track that shot him past Turner going through turn two. Chase Schmidt ran second and Turner was third. Heat wins went to Ryan, Brock Lemley, Larry Jenne and Spud Allen. Dustin O’Brien set quick time. Alex Gauthier won the B main.

Austin Sheridan ran an almost picture perfect race as he wired the field for his career win in the 600 restricted class. Sheridan led all 25 laps of the feature with little challenge. Derrick Moss was second and Rachel Westmoreland came home third. Sheridan was your quick time on the night. Moss and Westmoreland won the heat races.

It’s been a good week to drive number zero cars in the Pacific Northwest. Following in the path blazed by her hero, Jonathan Allard, Ashleigh Johnson took the #0 Kasey Kahne Junior Sprint to victory lane on Friday night in a wire to wire 15 lap victory. Eli Schmidt was second and Robie Price was third. Heat wins went to Price and Isaac Abenroth. Schmidt set quick time.
