Ryan Wade Superior In Stock Car Feature

 By Ken Keating

On a beautiful night for racing, Western Speedway presented the Stock Car Series, I.M.S. 4 Mini Stock Series, and the Island Dwarf Cars for Trophy Dashes, Heat races, and the Feature events for each class. The close racing began in those Dashes and held true pretty well throughout the evening. Carl Carlson Jr. won the B-Dash in the Dwarf Car Series and Jim Pridge took the A-Dash and Jeremy Stevens took the second spot after winning the drag race down the frontstretch over Mike Schott and by just inches. Billy Stidston, driving the #88 car, won the B-Dash in the Mini Stock Series and Gord Percival was riding along comfortably in second when he spun around on the last corner. Giles Parenteau won the A-Dash in the Mini Stock Series. Dave Reside won the B-Dash in the Stock Car Series with Marc Parkinson, driving the #14 car and running second, also spun out on the last lap. Aaron Wilkie won the A-Dash after he took the lead on the very last lap.

Jim Pridge was cruising along in the lead in the Dwarf Car B-Heat until lap eight when the yellow came out as Carl Carlson Jr. and Bob Greenaway got together bringing out a caution flag and Carlson had to be towed off the track as his car was locked in gear. Pridge would go on to the chequered flag. Randy Vincent took the A-Heat leading from start to finish. Alex Mouner continued his winning ways by capturing the I.M.S. 4 Mini Stock A-Heat with Matt Szauer winning the B-Heat by mere inches over Mouner. Dave Reside won the B-Heat while Aaron Wilkie took the victory in the A-Heat for the Stock Car Series.

Randy Vincent and John McNabb shared the front row as nine Dwarf Cars took the green flag for twenty laps of racing with Vincent taking the lead for the first five laps. Carl Carlson brought out the first yellow as he went around after just two laps. On the restart Vincent again went into the lead as Jim Pridge and Jeremy Stevens were on their way toward the front. The red flag came out as Tyler Peters had an engine blow up soon after causing a little bit of a delay as track crews cleaned up oil. On the restart, Vincent again grabbed the lead but Pridge made the pass for the lead on lap six and Stevens followed through and took over the second spot on the same lap. Once Pridge got the lead he ran away from the rest of the field going on to the chequered flag followed by Stevens, Mike Schott, Sean Sanger, and Vincent rounding out the top five.

Gord Percival had the pole for the start of the I.M.S. 4 Mini Stocks Feature event as eight cars took the green flag. Percival led the first three laps until Alex Mouner took over on lap four. Going into turn four, Percival spun out collecting a couple cars including Giles Parenteau and bringing out a caution flag. There was little damage done to any cars and they would continue. Mouner grabbed the lead on the restart followed by Jeremy Waksell with Matt Szauer moving into the third spot. No one had anything for Mouner as he cruised to the win followed by Waksell, Szauer, and Parenteau in the top four spots.

Sam Hunt and Billy Stidston, doing double duty, led fifteen cars to the green flag for fifty laps of racing for the Stock Car Feature event and it didn't take long for the action to begin. On the very first lap, Hunt spun out in front of the whole field with everyone going high and low to avoid a massive pileup. Everyone made it through where ever there was a hole to get around and it didn't even warrant a yellow flag. Garrett Smith came out of this with the lead with Ryan Wade on his bumper and Dave Reside and Marc Parkinson in the mix as well. On lap five, Wade took over the lead with Smith holding on to the second spot but on lap nine drivers were not quite so lucky as Parkinson went around maybe with a little help. Everyone behind checked up and some damage was done to Dan Myers and Aaron Wilkie's machines as Wade had started to open a good lead. On the restart, Wade again got a good jump and went back to the lead as Cody Aumen made his way into second on lap twelve dropping Reside back to third. Smith and Parkinson ran door handle to door handle for several laps trading the fourth and fifth spot several times. Over the next few laps, Parkinson ran door handle to door handle with Reside as he tried to take away the third spot and doing so on lap twenty. On lap twenty-two the yellow came out and on the double file restart, Wade had Aumen on his outside. These two drivers traded the lead with Aumen actually leading lap twenty-four and five. Wade got the inside groove when Aumen baubled just a bit and regained the lead on lap twenty-six. Wade started to pull a big lead as the battle back in the field was still intense as Aaron Wilkie and Kyle Cottam were moving up. Smith started to have smoke pour from his car and he pulled into the pits with Wilkie taking the fourth spot on lap thirty-four and Cottam moving to fifth one lap later. On lap forty-seven, Wilkie grabbed the second spot dropping Parkinson back to fourth. Wade went unchallenged to the chequered flag with Aumen, Wilkie, Parkinson, and Cottam rounding out the top five positions. Wade said: "I knew Aumen was there for the earlier restart and if he hadn't wiggled a bit, I'm not sure if I could have caught him". This is the third win for the #95 car with Kirt Rompain with one victory and Wade taking the last two. Interestingly enough this is the second time Aumen has chased Wade to the flag in this highly competitive Series. All of the winners received their trophies from Marciia Gringe and Shanna Amaral, the Western Speedway Trophy Girls on this night.

The next event, at Western Speedway, if an open wheel extravaganza with the WilRoc Sprint Car Series in their first appearance for 2011 along with the WilRoc Lites and OTRA running Friday and Saturday for the Billy Foster Memorial Trophy Friday and the Strawberry Cup on Saturday, June 10th and 11th. The spirited young lady, Sierra Jackson is expected in the field along Jeff, 'The Hurricane" Montgomery, Chris Schmelzle with other drivers from the NSRA Series. This promises to be a thrilling two days with the fastest cars and best drivers in the Pacific Northwest in high octane competition and speeds.
