7/22/11 - Two more first time winners graced victory lane on preliminary night number two of the 28th Annual Clay Cup Nationals. In the 600 division, Brayden Planko picked up his first open class win. In the 1200 class, Tyson Cross led all 30 laps en route to his first 1200 win.
Brayden Planko led all 30 laps of the 600 feature en route to his first open division victory at Deming Speedway. From his pole position, Planko rocketed out to an early advantage which he maintained for the duration of the feature. Multiple time Clay Cup champion Stan Yockey was second and Madison Hess finished third. Heat race wins went to Yockey, Brock Lemley, Phil Schemenauer, Hess, Heath Duinkerken and Brandon Benson. Michael Faccinto was fast time. Shaun Holtorf won the C Main and Chase Schmidt topped the B feature.
Tyson Cross completed a 12 year journey back to victory lane at Deming Speedway on Friday night with a 30 lap wire to wire win in the 1200 class. Tyson led every lap from the pole in what was his first victory since season championship night at Skagit Speedway in 1999. Eric Turner took second and Eric Drake was third. Jared Gunderson set quick time. Steven Hendrickson, Tom Waggoner and Clennon Holloway won heat races.
Liam Ryan and Brock Lemley will start on the front row for Saturday night’s 1200 A Feature. At the conclusion of 40 laps, the victor will take home $5,000. In the 600 division, Michael Faccinto and Dustin O’Brien will go side by side to start the 40 lap, $7,500 to win main event.
