Saratoga Bikinis and Boats

By Terry Guest

Twenty-four year old Luschia Bakker-Ayers out of Qualicum Beach managed to defeat 6 other beautiful contestants to win the 3rd annual Bikini contest at Saratoga Speedway on Saturday. #59 Ted Dimitrov also had a great win on the night; managing to outlast 7 other cars to win our last Boat race of the season.

The Roadrunners were up in car count on Saturday; 5 cars qualified with the best time going to #19 Tyrome Pollock who set a time of 20.575. #66 Nick Leavitt won the Dash, but was unable to catch Pollock in the 8 lap heat race, giving Pollock his first win at Saratoga Speedway. Pollock started 2nd in the main event and used his advantage to take an early and he never looked back from there, easily wining the 20 lap feature. #11 Derrik Senft finished 2nd, with 3rd going to #25 Andrea Cannon.

The Crash to Pass cars made their 3rd to last appearance of the season on Saturday. #72 Travis Stevenson set fast time in qualifying with a time of 19.091. #11 Dan Kemp won his first dash of the season. Stevenson dominated the field to take the win in the 10 lap heat. #01 Jeff May dominated the main event, but on the last lap, #89 Gregg Sagmoen spun him out on the backstretch and took the lead and held it from there. Stevenson would finish 2nd, with 3rd going to May.

#01 Kevin Lawrenuk once again set fast time in qualifying in the Hornet division, setting a time of 18.578. #28 Brianne Fenn won the C dash, #59 Ted Dimitrov won the B, and #08 Daryn Cahill won the A dash. Brianne continued her winning ways into the C heat, leading all but 2 laps. #14 Kyle Fallowfield won the B heat in a borrowed race car; and #03 Jennifer Lawrenuk held off the field to take the win in the A heat. 22 cars took the green flag for their 30 lap feature. #59 Ted Dimitrov held the early lead but lost it on lap 12 to #08 Daryn Cahill. He and his brother Daryl battled hard the rest of the way but Daryn managed to hold his brother off to take the win. Daryn ended up finishing 2nd, with 3rd going to #01 Kevin Lawrenuk.

Extra laps… Next weekend the Old Time Racing Association with be at the Speedway for their last appearance of the season. These old vintage cars range anyways from the 1920’s to the 1940’s. The I.M.C.A Modifieds, Dwarf cars and the Bomber cars will round out next weekend’s schedule. September 3rd and 4th marks our very popular Canadian-American Demolition derby. The first night will feature a demolition race, which is like our Crash to Pass cars but with a lot more hitting. The second night will be the actual demolition derby. We will also be hosting the Figure 8 “invitational” on those 2 nights. Make sure to check out these great racing events.
