Western Speedway officials are
excited about the upcoming season, as the schedule will produce exciting events
every weekend from opening night until the end of September. In a effort to be more neighbor friendly in
the Langford community, the races will start a half hour early at 6:30 and will
end by 10:00. Speedway management feels
this will be a win, win situation as it will keep our neighbors happy as well
as getting our family’s home at a reasonable hour to go along with our motto “Number 1 in Family Fun”.
In a effort to make the cost of attending the races more affordable for family’s in these tough economic times, Western has lowered the Family price for 2 Adults, 4 youths 12 and under to a low $35.00, truly making in Victoria’s Number 1 in Family Fun Center.
There could only be one of the four 2011 champions back to defend their titles in 2012, Bomber Champion Brandon Steen will be moving up to challenge for the Championship and Rookie of the Year in awards the Stock Car Division, leaving the door wide open for a new Champion. Drivers expected to challenge for the championship include Aaron Cameron who ended up only seven points behind at season’s end, as well Dennis Stewart, Jamie Morgan, Chris Stone, and Heath Cooper. Another driver to keep your eye on is Danny Madden who is back after a lengthy layoff.
Kyle Rizok who emerged as the Mini Figure 8 Champion last year in a heated battle with Ashton Campbell will looking to win his second consecutive championship. Rizok and Campbell can expect challenges from Kyle Beck and the young brothers Cody and Brandon Young.
In the Demo Truck Division there will be a new champion as last year’s champion Kevin Night is also moving up to the Stock Car class and will battle Steen for Rookie of the Year Honors. Contenders in this division for the Championship include George Haywood, Jeff Foley, Kenny Baker and Brandon Young.
The Demo car class could also have a new Champion as Speedway officials are not sure if last year’s Demo Car Champion Greg Sagmoen will be back to defend his title. If Sagmoen does come back he will face stiff competition from former Champions, Kirk Peacey and Joe Liberatore as well as Robin Trottier and the father son team of Jim and Cody Young.
The next event at Western Speedway will be Saturday May 12th O’Dell Slinger Service The Keg Late Models (Twin 50’s) Richlock Rentals presents the popular WILROC Non Winged Sprint Cars as well as the Island Series Stock Cars.
