NASCAR’s Maryeve Dufault Is Ex-Bikini Model & Barker Beauty

By Jkootbc/fox sports
Imagine our surprise while thumbing through the August office copy of Maxim and our eyes meeting Maryeve Dufault in her bikini. At first it was just another hot chick in Maxim. But then we noticed a small tidbit that nearly floored us. The ex-Hawaiian Tropic bikini model and Price Is Right Barker Beauty is also a race car driver on the ARCA circuit. But that all changes Aug. 20 when she gets behind the wheel of a NASCAR ride for a Nationwide race. Danica who?

We understand that Maryeve will become the first Canadian (from Sorel, Quebec) woman to ever compete in a Nationwide race when she gets behind the wheel in August for the Montreal Napa Auto Parts 200. It’ll also be Maryeve’s coming out party to the national NASCAR media. ESPN will carry the race live.

Dufault, 29, has been dabbling with ARCA this summer, but with NASCAR ratings dipping and fan interest waning, a female driver to rival Danica Patrick could be a dream scenario for the old boys.

NOEL DOWLER CONTINUES TO RUN STRONG

July 28, 2011.  Following a successful run in his first oval track experience, Sherwood Park, Alberta’s Noel Dowler got right back to work in the #5 EMCO Dodge during round number seven of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Wednesday night.

It was easy to see how much smoother and quick Dowler was running the #5 EMCO Dodge at the end of the one hour practice session compared to the beginning.  “The car felt good and I got very comfortable” he stated.  “It was fun to drive, I thought I’d only done a handful of laps but the team said I had done over 70” he added.

Dowler still needs a little more experience with his qualifying and would start at the back of the field.  However shortly after the drop of the green flag he began moving the #5 EMCO Dodge forward.  Following the first caution period of the night Dowler would restart the race in thirteenth position and on the next restart was eleventh.  “With each lap I’m feeling more and more comfortable in the car” explained Dowler.

Reality would strike later in the race when Dowler was taking the #5 EMCO Dodge around the outside of a slower car.  That competitor contacted the rear of Dowler’s machine sending him spinning and another tore the rear bumper off.  “It’s all part of the learning process I guess” smiled Dowler.

Following a stop on pit road to remove the dangling body work, Dowler return to the action and the #5 EMCO Dodge was just as quick.  When the checkered flag waved they would claim a thirteenth place finish, gaining eight positions from the start of the race.  “Overall it was a good night and I have to thank the whole team for working so hard in the last few days getting the car ready.  I think we made a lot of progress in the last couple of races and I’m looking forward to getting back in action at Trois Rivieres.

OF NOTE:  Noel Dowler and the #5 EMCO Dodge team members were special guests at a company BBQ for hundreds of EMCO employees and customers at the Saskatoon office the day before the race.  The #5 EMCO Dodge race car and hauler were on display and Dowler signed autograph cards for those in attendance.  The entire team would like to thank all those in attendance for their warm welcome and hospitality.

The next event of the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule for Noel Dowler takes place August 5-7 at the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres in Trois Rivieres, Quebec.  Dowler will participate in a total of five road and street course events, along with the two oval track races at Motoplex Speedway in Vernon, BC and Auto Clearing Speedway in Saskatoon for a total of seven races.  All of the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series races will be broadcast on TSN.  Check local listings for times in your area.  For more information about Noel Dowler Jr. log onto www.apollomotorsports.ca

ASA UPDATE FOR JULY LONG WEEKEND

ASA ADVANCE TESTING BRITISH COLUMBIA LATE MODEL TOUR
Penticton Speedway (Penticton, BC, Canada)

The Late Model stars of Western Canada will be in action on Saturday and Sunday for the Gordie Mannes Memorial Weekend.  This will be two great nights of side-by-side late model racing action on the quarter-mile oval.  Geoff Morris holds an eight point lead over Tom Berrow in the standings.

JASON WHITE STARTS STRONG IN SASKATOON

July 28, 2011.  Sun Peaks, British Columbia racer Jason White and the #21 A & W Dodge team were happy to be back on track at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for round number seven of the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series on Wednesday.  The fast 1/3 mile oval is a favourite for racers.

During practice the #21 A & W Dodge ran very well with White only having one minor issue.  “The car was just a bit tight off corner two but other than that felt really good” said White.

With a strong #21 A & W Dodge race car underneath him White would run his best qualifying lap of the season and start the 250 feature event in eighth spot.  “What a great lap” said an enthusiastic White.  “Dave Lynch told me to come out of corner four and get closer to the wall.  I did and it really paid off with that lap” he added.

As the race began White continued his solid day.  “The #21 A & W Dodge was running really well, I could go high or low on the track and the car felt great” he explained.  “I settled in to run a good consistent pace in the early going and be ready for the end of the race.

However fortunes for the #21 A & W Dodge team changed dramatically.  During a caution period White noticed the engine did not sound right and he had lost oil pressure.  “I told the crew on the radio and we hoped it was just a glitch but unfortunately it wasn’t” he stated.

Jason was forced to bring the #21 A & W Dodge to pit road and went several laps down while the team diagnosed the problem.  “It was some sort of electrical issue” explained the driver.  With the car still able to run I went back out and ran laps to try and pick up championship points, but it’s pretty disappointing knowing we had such a good car and a little like this got us” he stated.

Jason White and the #21 A & W Dodge will return to action the weekend of August 5-7 at the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres in Trois Rivieres, Quebec.

LANGLEY RACER REUNION AT PENTICTON, ASA STYLE

Shepherd Takes Win With Last-Lap Pass

NASCAR Canadian Tire Series drama in Saskatoon
 perry nelson/nascar

SASKATOON, Sask. (July 27, 2011) – Pete Shepherd III made a last-lap pass of DJ Kennington to win the Velocity Prairie Thunder NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway on Wednesday.

Shepherd seized the opportunity when JR Fitzpatrick spun out of second place late in the race. Shepherd challenged Kennington on the restart and was able to get by him coming to the checkered flag to score his second career series win in his first visit to the Saskatoon track. The 24-year-old Brampton, Ont., competitor became the sixth different driver to visit Victory Lane this season.

Don Thomson Jr. trailed the pair across the line in third. Kerry Micks was fourth, with Mark Dilley taking fifth. Rounding out the top 10 were Jason Hathaway, Ron Beauchamp Jr., Dan Shirley, JR Fitzpatrick and James Van Domselaar.

Kennington, who had set a track record in winning the Keystone Light Pole Award in qualifying earlier in the day, paced the field for nearly 100 laps early and went on to lead the most laps. Shepherd, who started alongside Kennington on the front row, was never far away, however.

Kennington gave up the top spot on Lap 100 as the leaders made pit stops during the fourth caution. Following another round of pit stops during a subsequent caution period, Kennington came out of the pits in third behind Fitzpatrick and Jason Hathaway. He quickly moved to second and got by Fitzpatrick for the lead on Lap 227.

Meanwhile, Shepherd was also making his way to the front. He was up to fourth by Lap 202 and third by Lap 231. When Fitzpatrick spun on Lap 240, while running second, it opened the door for Shepherd to make his move. He edged Kennington by .045 seconds. The win gives Shepherd a top five finish in five of his last seven starts.

The race was slowed due to caution six times for 52 laps and the lead changed hands nine times among six drivers.

Scott Steckly finished 20th and saw his lead in the point standings over Kennington drop from 97 to just 20 after his team had to make repairs after sustaining some damage early in the race. Thomson and Fitzpatrick follow in fourth and fifth, respectively, while Micks holds down the fifth spot.

The Velocity Prairie Thunder from Auto Clearing Speedway will be telecast by TSN on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 1 p.m. ET.

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series is next in action on Sunday, Aug. 7 at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres (Que.) for the GP3R 100.

Ron Larson wins the Art Pollard Memorial

 nsra media

The Spoils of victory belong the the Canadians

Ron Larson starts on the pole for the 40 lap Main Event then takes the checkered flag in an all green race ! Larson said, “ I tried to be as smooth as I could with both hands on the wheel but if I put one hand on the wheel and one hand up on the side it seemed to drive better that way, I don’t know why. It was so hard to get anywhere, you get hung up behind somebody and the closing rate is so different from what I’m used to and you get there and you’re there way to quick. You try to find a place to go and you think you’re going to get passed by somebody else and you’re working like a dam to get by !”

By Terry Guest
Photos Luisa Pereira

First Insurance sponsored a night of firsts at Saratoga Speedway on Saturday. #99 Gilles Cyr, #24 Wayde Heckford and #44 Tim Openshaw all picked up their first main event wins in their respected classes on Saturday.

The Night started off strong in qualifying, with 2 new track records being set. #11 Mike Meeres set a new track record in the Dwarf car division, setting a new track record of 15.513, beating the old record of 15.531. #53 Kevin Noble was the other driver to set a track record, setting a new track record in the I.M.C.A division with a time of 15.275. Over the past 3 race events for the Modifieds, a new track record has been set every race night. 7 dashes were run on Saturday. In the Dwarf car class, #5 Jeremy Stevens picked up the win in the B dash, and #11 Mike Meeres won the A. #32 Dano Bryant won the B dash in the I.M.C.A division, and the A went to #8 Brad Purdy. #72 Travis Stevenson picked up the win in the B dash for the Bomber cars, and #24 Charlie Ackerman picked up the win in the A. The Motorcycles also ran a dash on the evening, with the win going to #68 Bruce Moran.

Each class also ran heats, and invert heats on the night. #24 Wayde Heckford took the win in the heat for the Dwarf cars, with the invert heat win going to #4 Sean Sanger. #44 Tim Openshaw picked up his first win of the season in the I.M.C.A heat; #98 Pat Brown ran away with the invert heat, leading every lap. Stevenson carried over his winning ways into the Bomber heat, leading all but 2 laps. #28 Mike Morningstar held pole in the invert heat and led since there, taking the win. #1 Chris White managed to hold off Moran to take the win in the Motorcycle heat. Moran dominated White in the main to take the win, leading all but 3 laps. The 20 lap Dwarf car feature saw Heckford move his way up to first on the first lap. #11 Mike Meeres would battle Heckford the whole way on but couldn’t find away around him, giving Heckford his first ever main event win in a Dwarf car. Meeres would finish 2nd, and 3rd went to #4 Sean Sanger. #32 Dano Bryant led 6 other Modifieds to the green flag in their 25 lap feature. Openshaw would only take 2 laps to get around Bryant, and from there he spread his lead to almost half a lap and went on to take his first main event win of the season.

Purdy would finish 2nd, and #53 Kevin Noble settled with 3rd. 4 lead changed occurred in the 30 lap main event for the Bomber cars. #28 Mike Morningstar led for the first 6 laps, but #11 Justin Beaulieu made a nice move on the outside to take over the lead. Beaulieu held that lead for 17 laps, but #90 Johnny Zanette took over the lead on lap 23. Zanette looked to have it won, but on lap 29 #99 Gilles Cyr flew by on the outside to take the lead and would go on to win his first main event of the season. Zanette finished 2nd, and Beaulieu finished 3rd.

Extra laps… Next weekend marks our final Monster Truck weekend of the season. 4 amazing Monster trucks will be on hand next weekend, including never seen before McGruff. California Kid and Rockstar will be back for the 2nd show of the year, along with Double Trouble, also a relatively new truck. Sunday, July 31, will be our cheaper night. Adults pay $5 less, Students pay $10 less, and Children pay $5 less. Make sure to check out next weekends amazing show.

TOUROND WINS AGASSIZ STREET STOCK SPECIAL

By Robert Adams

 Mckellar Photo

Agassiz top 3 street stock special:

KEITH TOUROND
DEAN BRIDGE
MARK MCFAYDEN

Fourteen cars competed in the Street stock special at Agassiz on Saturday night.  Pole position Kelly Moto in the 48 car stayed out front for the first 5 laps and was quickly relegated down by lap ten where the 18 of Cameron graham took to leading. Murray Jones, #28 had the best time in but was foiled when his starter cable fell off and shorted out the electrical, ending his run early by lap ten. Following 18 closely, was the 44 of Keith Tourand, the #6 of dean Bridge, the 55 of Trent McArthur and the “X” of Paul Tourand. It stayed this order for the next 20 or so laps, until the 55 dropped almost  to the back after a confrontation with the number 8 of John Chatwin, and had to work his way up again. Unfortunately he ran into the back of another who brake checked too fast, and damaged his rad completely and pulled out by lap 47.

It was still 18 and 44 out front, but the “X” and 77 of Mark McFayden had moved to third and fourth respectively at the half way point. For the next 35 laps or so of clean driving, the order stayed consistent for the top 5, starting with 18, still leading, then  44,the X, the 77 and the 6 of Dean Bridge.

Then it got interesting in the last 12 laps.  The 18 of Cameron had to come in for a repair, (problem unknown at time of writing), and then was able to get out  later, but dropping him back to 5th. The “X” car of Paul had been able to climb comfortably into second for a short time and even first for a lap, when he too was plagued on lap 90, with his car stalling and needing a tow. It would have been his probably. With “X” out of it, on the restart with nine laps to go Keith had was now in front, followed by Dean Bridge and Mark McFayden. Earlier the #8 of John Chatwin tangled with a couple of cars, and the final straw came in lap 90 as well, when he tangled with car 6. He was awarded the black flag for the evening. So it ended with Paul taking the checkered, followed by Dean and Mark, with the #18 of Cameron coming in fourth. Later however, 18 was Dq’d due to being light at the scales at race end.

HIGHS AND LOWS FOR JASON WHITE IN A & W DODGE AT MOTOPLEX

By Todd Lewis & TL Sports & Entertainment

July 24, 2011 - Sun Peaks, British Columbia racer Jason White was brimming with enthusiasm as he arrived for round number six of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at his home track at Motoplex Speedway near Vernon, BC.  The driver of the #21 A & W Dodge was excited to be racing in the A & W Cruisin’ the Dub 300 along with his brother Jim White and young BC sensation Sarah Cornett-Ching who were in cars with A & W colours from his stable.

The day went well early on as White only needed to run a few practice laps in the #21 A & W Dodge Challenger.  “The car felt great and I knew we had a long race ahead so I didn’t want to run too much” said White.  Jason’s feelings were confirmed as he posted a ninth quickest qualifying time.

Following several days of sponsor events, media appearances and autograph signings it was time to race and White was anxious to show what his hometown team could do.  Unfortunately for him some racing misfortune would hamper his night at the start of the 300 lap event.  The race barely underway, the #21 A & W Dodge Challenger was collected in an incident putting them at the back of the pack.  “We didn’t panic, I knew it was early and I just got going and we didn’t lose a lap, our job just got a little bit more difficult” explained White.

As the race progressed the job for the #21 A & W Dodge Challenger team got even more complex.  As White was regaining positions lost from the early tangle he felt the handling of the car going amiss.  “I knew something was wrong and we had a tire going down” said White.  “The tough part was we had a bunch of cautions earlier but we had to make a green flag stop to change the tire and that really set us back” he added.

Still motivated after all the adversity they faced, Jason again began his fight back in the #21 A & W Dodge Challenger.  “Nothing had changed with the car, we simply had some back circumstances we were able to race hard and began making up ground” said the driver.

White continued to push the #21 A & W Dodge Challenger and later in the race his luck changed and he was rewarded for his efforts.  “We ended up a few laps down but we continued to race hard and put ourselves in position to always be the recipient of the free pass when the cautions came out and near the end of the race we got back on the lead lap” he explained.

In the closing laps White continued to battle and as the checkered flag waved the #21 A & W Dodge Challenger claimed an eleventh place finish.  “We just missed out on another top ten” said White.  “I can’t say enough about how hard this team worked tonight.  Of course this is an important race with A & W as the title sponsor and we wanted to show how determined this team is to succeed”.

OF NOTE:  Jason’s brother Jimmy White also had a good evening.  Jimmy managed to avoid numerous incidents during the race and had a solid tenth place finish.  Sarah Cornett-Ching also ran very well and was on her way to an excellent finish until a mechanical failure ended her night prematurely, she would claim a fourteenth place result.  “I’m really proud of both of them” said Jason White.  “Sarah did an amazing job in her first NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race driving the #25 A & W Cuisin’ for a cause machine.  We got some great publicity for the event August 25th where a dollar from each Teen Burger sold goes to the MS Society.  And I knew Jim would have a good night, if we’d had a few more laps though I’m pretty sure I would have been able to pass him” joked Jason.

Hoffses scores at Wenatchee

By Kris McKenzie

Mitch Hoffses drove the wheels of his Dad's Hawk/Gaerte and scored an exciting win at the Beautiful Wenatchee Valley Super Oval, one of the finest racing facilities on the Pacific Coast.

The first afternoon hot laps session saw a horrific crash when Pat Bliss in the Maples Beast/Ed Pink Ford had the throttle stick wide open going into turn one. A hard hit with the cement wall nearly destroyed the car, but thankfully, after being checked by the medics, Bliss, along with Maples and the crew chief, was able to walk back to the pits, to try to determine exactly what happened. Sadly this is the second car that Maples has seen heavily damaged this season, the first one being a total loss. Tom Maples is determined to get back out and is working now to try and make that happen, and have this new car repaired so Bliss can get back in the Championship hunt. Both Maples and Bliss were waiting for the 79 car to come through the pit gate so they could try and talk Rod Churchill into giving Pat Bliss the ride so he might have a chance to earn enough points to keep him in the lead for the Championship. Unfortunately for all concerned, the 79 car did not show up for this race.

Two new drivers made their appearance at this race, down from Aldergrove, B.C., with his beautiful Ellis/Focus was Steve Hora, making his very first appearance with WMRA. The 2006 WMRA Champion, Spence Gatrell in his Dad's Hawk/Esslinger made his first appearance for the 2011 season.

In qualifying the sought after Quality High-Tech Award went to Evan Margeson. In the six races run in 2011, Margeson has won this award twice, while Livernash, Petter, Tupling, and Bliss have each won once. This coveted award generates interest, not only for the drivers in the pits, but the fans in the stands. This evening Margeson won it by seven one hundredths of a second over second fast qualifier, Snake Livernash!

Two trophy dashes were run, in the first "B" dash Hoffses, from his outside front row starting position led every lap to come home the winner. The "A" dash saw a driver lead every lap to take the win, but this time Evan Margeson did it from his 4th starting position.

The first heat race got off to a wild start as going into turn three on the first lap. four of the five cars tried to occupy the same space. It didn't work! Both Brian Crutcher an Troy Globe were the recipients of the brunt of the melee and retired to the pits to assess damage. Brian and Troy Globe labored mightily and were able to repair their "11 car in time to start the main. However, the steering was broken in the Voss #45 and the car was retired for the night. The remaining cars took the green and Mitch Hoffses came home the winner by a large margin.

The second heat was a tremendous event as Kris McKenzie, in the Globe #41 fought to keep his Beast/Focus car in the lead fending off challenges from the best WMRA had to offer. He maintained the lead, but on lap three hard charging Ben Petter got by, but the next lap saw McKenzie back in the lead, which he held until going into turn three on the final lap when both Petter and Margeson slipped by.

Of the twelve cars that signed in the pit gate, only nine remained in racing trim to line up for the main event. Steve Hughes fought his Beast/Fontana all day long, got it to fire, but could not keep it running and so was not there to answer the green flag. When the green flag dropped contact between cars resulted in the #8 of Spence Gatrell doing a 360 down the front stretch and he continued on. From the pole position Mitch Hoffses took the lead and held it to the checkered flag. Ah, but it was not that simple, he had tremendous pressure for almost the entire thirty five laps from hard driving Ben Petter who was right at the rear bumper of the five car waiting for the slightest slip, which did not come. Behind Petter Evan Margeson was lurking and watching for a chance to improve his position, but sadly, that all ended when a battery wire failed and he made an early trip to the pits. Spence Gatrell meanwhile had been working his way back up and was in third place, and watching for any chance to get by either Petter or Hoffses. Back in the pack, Livernash who had suffered due to the front stretch spin was far back in the field and battling to regain positions. For several laps he had a ringside seat to the tight, close racing between Troy Globe and Kris McKenzie before getting by them. Behind that was another little war going on between Hora and Tupling which ended when Tupling pulled in on lap 17 with motor problems. It was coming out of turn four on the last lap when spectators knew that Mitch Hoffses would pull it off - yes, it was that close!
